What is this place?

Unread post by James »

An excellent question!

First, have a look at the new Kongming at Bat website for an introduction. (Pardon the dust—we'll start simple and build up from there). And now that you've read that, you probably have a better idea of what this place is. It is the new baseball general discussion forum, the first step in the transition of Kongming's Archives and Scholars of Shen Zhou into something a little more baseball oriented—though we can still keep some of the Three Kingdoms familiarity as we go along the way.

Think of it as The Pub, or the Sanguo Yanyi Symposium. Have at it!

I hope this isn't too surprising or traumatic a change. :)

I protest! This is active discrimination to those of us who don't give a bat's fart about baseball because a) we have no hometown team worth watching, and b) can't catch a ball if our lives depended on it!

Like why can't you be interested in something more, you know, appealing to a wider audience? Like backgammon. Or crocheting. Or *gasp* video games about long-dead people?

A while ago I didn't give a bat's fart about baseball either! But I'm not about to let a little something like that stop it from becoming a grand hobby. After all, I'm an American. And you, by the way—you've lived in America. So you can do it too! As for a team, why not allow nostalgia to guide you? Wikipedia to the rescue!. How about becoming a Giants fan? Barry Bonds was a big dude! (What a wonderful *ahem* natural gift he had!) I actually saw them for my first baseball game. Utah only has the Bees, and they're minor league. And I don't like Bees all that much. I do know a dude who on his website talks a lot about the Yankees, so I think I'll choose them. As I understand it they're the most likely to purchase a championship during any given year.

Do you suppose we could have an adequate discussion of backgammon on the website? It sounds complicated. Crocheting sounds complicated, and Michael's is closed. I did learn to cross stitch, however. I made 60% of a Mario.

No worries, though. There are baseball video games which feature a wide assortment of dead folk. Granted, you'll probably have to work with some of the older releases, but that's right up our alley. So we can at least check that one off. All your bases are covered. Te-hee!

Baseball is so last century. Staged wrestling matches are what's cool now. Make the Diamond a Ring, so all the admins can wear skin-tight costumes and silly masks. I want to see what wrestling names everyone chooses for themselves.
My head rests on the pillow. The quilt is warm and smooth. I am peaceful.
Sunshine on the door, the curtain is not yet drawn.
The morning air retains the youthful taste of spring
briefly come, arriving while I was sleeping.

I know nothing about baseball (soccer rules!) so does this make me qualified to pick a team and suggest I know better then it's manager?

Hear! Hear!

(Except the part with the admins. I vote we get the new members to do it instead as an initiation ceremony.)

Clearly if its not going to be baseball it should be a soccer forum. Only the best sport in the world!
Have a question about a book or academic article before you buy it? Maybe I have it!

How could you choose baseball over football? It makes no sense!

I move that the topics be changed to football related threads, and that the diamond be renamed the gird iron.

I third it! Football > Baseball. (Though I am kind of biased, seeing as my football team is the Steelers and my baseball team is the Pirates.)
