Never heard that Lujiang(jiang means river) called Huan, but the old name of "Lu river庐[lú]江" is "Qian river潜[qián]川",and its original name was"Huan river 浣[huàn] 川"。capnnerefir wrote:Is either of them more correct? Re: Three Kingdoms Maps and Illustrations
There is a hint for understanding chinese place name.
we can find a lot of names with the end "yang" such as NanYang, YiYang, LuoYang,XiangYang,MianYang...
Yang阳 pronounced “young” means the sun or sunlight which indicates that the places locate in the south side of a mountain and/or the north of a river.
LuoYang locates the north of Luo river.HengYang is in the south of Heng Mountain.
Yin阴 is the opposite against Yang , shadow or moon or the moonlight, means south of river or/and north of mountain.such as JiangYin,HuaYin..
Yin-Yang is Dao.

Hi!
I've stumbled upon this useful-looking map, which shows warlords expansion dynamic: http://romanceofthethreekingdomsgame.co ... tle-maps2/
Do any of you perhaps know the source of this map?
Also is it reliable? While translating the warlords names (my translation can be seen here) I found one small error: Liu Zhang succeeded his father in 194, yet he is shown as being Yi governor in 189.

That map really opens my eyes to the territory difference between the three kingdoms. Liu Bei had very little land, so his population must've been extremely tiny compared to Cao.

Re: Three Kingdoms Maps and Illustrations
One thing is for sure about the differences in population density. Territories of Wu and Shu include today's Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, that are mostly least developed even till today. The cradle of Han culture is from Wei River Valley to the end of Yellow River Delta, while the Southern Hills was the home to Yue(an ambiguous collection of ancient Southern tribes, "Bai Yue" since Qin's conquer of the far south).
Several prosperous periods of Yangtze River Delta were somehow transmitted from the North, while the North was being ravaged by çivil wars, rebellions, floods, famines, and nomadic nation invasions. One of the most famous examples is the noble houses fled to the South due to nomadic invasions during Jin Dynasty, led by House of Sima. Another, "fill Huguang with population in Jiangxi, fill Sichuan with population in Huguang", happened in Qing.

Since the GIS technology and other relevant things have developed so well in the last few years, I would want to know if anyone know of a good and detailed Three Kingdoms or historical China GIS database/dataset/website etc.
PS: Language does not matter. It can be in traditional or simplified Chinese, English, or even Japanese.
