Three Kingdoms Maps and Illustrations
Re: Three Kingdoms Maps and Illustrations
Austere, Luminosity of Chinese Classical Furniture by Sarah Handler. It was recommended to me by Guo Bia so maybe she might be able to give you some other titles of interest.
Have a question about a book or academic article before you buy it? Maybe I have it!

Re: Three Kingdoms Maps and Illustrations
Alright, thanks for the tip.
I don't write fanfic, but if I did it would involve Zhou Yu and Zheng He fighting to win the heart of Lai Choi San. Then I'd make them join forces to fight Ming the Merciless, who secretly works for Master Li. I'd squeeze Lu Bu in there somehow.

If the site doesn't work, tell me and I'll upload the pics and send you the URLs. It has one illustration of how Chengdu looked back in the 3k era + a bunch of pics about pics about battle sites.

Alright, this is pretty good stuff. Thanks.
That site's an archived version of an old 3k site, right? I've checked out the homepage and I know I've seen those low-budget screenshots of 3k figures before.

These are good maps. Did Wu ever take control of that island of Ya-zhou? I've read on some places that they did, but I've never confirmed it with reliable sources.

Re: Three Kingdoms Maps and Illustrations
From the map I find there are two "Wancheng".They are different places.
The Battle of Wancheng between Cao Cao and Zhang Xiu was in here NanYang. In old Chinese, "WanCheng(宛wǎn城)" pronounced "YuanCheng(宛yuān城)". But now we usually read "WanCheng(宛wǎn城)" .
Another "WanCheng(皖城)" is “Lujiang(庐江)” which means "the Lu river" .The Battle of LuJiang between Wei and Wu took place here.In the peroid of Three kingdoms,Lujiang's capital located in WanCheng(皖城) when it was belongs to Wu,but located in"YangQuan(阳泉)" when it was governed by Wei.When it goverd by Wu the captical WanCheng(皖城) is QianShan(潜山) .So in this map Qianshan, LuJiang and WanCheng in red circle are the same place.
LuJiang is Zhou Yu's hometown and also mine

During the Three Kingdoms, there were a myriad of cities that have the modern pronounciation of Wancheng. The most notorious was indeed Nanyang commandery's capital, called Wan (Cheng just means walled place).

I've often seen the one in Lujiang called Huan instead of Wan; it seems to be about an even split. Does anyone know the reason for this pronunciation?
Re: Three Kingdoms Maps and Illustrations
I just grabbed the character in question (皖), and it appears to be an alternate spelling of the character.capnnerefir wrote:I've often seen the one in Lujiang called Huan instead of Wan; it seems to be about an even split. Does anyone know the reason for this pronunciation?
