JSTOR has an article entitled Cai Yan and the Poems Attributed to Her by Hans H. Frankel. In it, Frankel translates poems that were supposedly written by Cai Yan and then discusses their authenticity. It is worth a read if you want to know more about Cai Yan, in my opinion, as he also gives biographical details about her. He talks at length about the historiography surrounding these biographical details/her poetry. Interestingly, he opines that none of the three poems accredited to Cai Yan were written by her, and in any case, all three were written by different authors. There goes everything I thought I knew about Cai Yan...

By comparison, I notice that in the Biographical Dictionary, Dr. Rafe de Crespigny adopts a more traditional view about Cai Yan, but notes 2 poems attributed to her. I suppose the third poem that Frankel translated is recognized by almost everybody not to have been written by her.

This isn't entirely Three Kingdoms related, but it is useful for Chinese history in general. If you've ever been on China History Forum, I'm sure you'll know of the illustrious poster known as Yun, who has written a considerable amount there on Chinese history as a whole, and also contributed a lot of knowledge about the Three Kingdoms.

Just so happens that he's actually a professor at a university now, and he has an academia.edu page where he's uploaded a couple of things he's written. Very interesting stuff. Academia.edu is just a great resource in general though. One of the better sites out there in my opinion. Not to mention it's free (as in free free, not "you must be in university to access this for it to be free").
