I've been listening to Behemoth, Deicide and some old school Slayer. Yet my heart still has a soft spot for Lordi's "Hard Rock Hallelujah". I just find it a really fun song.

A friend got me listening to some old school Boney M.

Currently listening to Persona 5/P5 OST largely due to me playing the Persona 5 Royal/P5R. They have some good music that meshed well within the realm of the game. It sucks that I won't be able to visit Japan in June due to the pandemic.
I love the final boss theme music from P5.

I went to see Alterbridge perform live in the 02 in December and one of the support acts were called Halestorm who somehow I hadn't listened to before. But I thought they were great, so have been listening to them a lot since!
Have a question about a book or academic article before you buy it? Maybe I have it!

Re: What songs are you currently listening to?
Lately I’ve been spending time appreciating individual artists I keep stumbling across. Usually I listen to an Apple Music channel based on my favorite music (which has been accumulating for longer than this forum has existed), and occasionally I notice a few new songs from one artist that I have enjoyed, and check out more of their work.
Right now I’m listening to a good album from Holly Humberstone. A few artist I ended up deeply enjoying from the past half year or so include Little Boots, Sasha Alex Sloan, and Billie Eilish.
Someone observed that I seem to like the “nasally women singers” genre.

I really enjoy Sia. I was listening to random music of hers a couple days ago while I drove to and from a local bird refuge.Mega Zarak wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 3:06 am Unstoppable by Sia. Especially good when I do my daily workouts or before I play badminton. haha..

Re: What songs are you currently listening to?
In the last few years I've been making a concerted effort to seek out more female artists, as most of the ones I already listened to were well-established, older or dead, as the case may be (Patti Smith, Nico, Sandy Denny, etc). I also have found it worthwhile in the past to periodically force myself to go looking for new music instead of just buying the newest albums from my old favorites.
So, Phoebe Bridgers, Japanese Breakfast, Soccer Mommy, Anna Burch, The Japanese House, Holly Miranda, Hazel English, Anais Mitchell, Lights, Larkin Poe and Dream Wife have been consistent parts of my musical rotation for most of the pandemic.
Additionally, I have been listening to a lot of Stars, The Rural Alberta Advantage, The Kills, Sunflower Bean, Alvvays, Veronica Falls and Beach Bunny, along with the most recent albums from Spoon and Mogwai.

After recently getting into the NPB, I caught some walk-up music by the musician Aimyon and I was obsessed with her stuff for a few months. Her music also got me watching some J-Dramas that featured her stuff and it kinda spiralled on from there.
Highly recommend if anyone is looking to get into J-pop.

Cool stuff. Video game OST music has gotten ridiculously good recently; I'm digging the cinematic/sympho vibe early on and the slightly Balkan-sounding vocal inflections that take over in the middle.R.P. Gryphus wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 4:46 pm Shadow Warrior 2 - Main Theme

I'm listening to some Slovak heavy metal right now. Three bands in particular: Makar Čudra, Janesession and Strygon.
Song: 'Vrtká'
Artist: Makar Čudra feat. Otto Weiter
Album: 1984-2014 (2020)
Genre: Heavy metal / hard rock
Comments: Yeah, this is Eurovision metal. Light in the boots stuff. Reminds me less of Lordi than Epizod, though. It's got a fun, infectious rhythm to it. Otto Weiter has a Bruce Hall kind of vocal inflection which seems like it might be more suitable to the thrash revival, but he seems capable of carrying even a lighter, more upbeat song like this one.
Song: '4ever Young, 4ever Free'
Artist: Jane Razor and Janesession
Album: 4ever (2012)
Genre: Heavy metal
Comments: Good stuff. Jane really knows how to rock with her socks off, so to speak. She's got kind of a Girlschool / Hellion / Joan Jett / Liv Jagrell vibe to her which works remarkably well for this kind of old school biker metal.
Song: 'Whitechapel'
Artist: Strygon
Album: Whitechapel (2011)
Genre: Melodic speed / power metal
Comments: Basically a Slovak Powerwolf which sings about Jack the Ripper and Egyptian mythology. Not bad, certainly, and Harvey Havran can really pull off those screams like a champ.
Some more blood, Chekov. The needle won't hurt, Chekov. Take off your shirt, Chekov. Roll over, Chekov. Breathe deeply, Chekov. Blood sample, Chekov! Marrow sample, Chekov! Skin sample, Chekov! If I live long enough... I'm going to run out of samples.
