1994 Series Restoration

Unread post by Nyc »

Greetings all I love Romance of the Three Kingdoms and especially the 1994 series version. I am familiar with three main different versions of the 1994 series, however I've recently come into contact in what I believe to be the highest quality version of the 1994 version. (If you can prove me wrong on that please do!) =)

So there are some issues with this high quality version, there are no English subs and there are a small number of episodes I've been yet to find. (38, 66 and 67). I started forming this project around 2 months ago and hit a bottleneck because one of the episodes I was missing was the first episode which has now been found.

I'm currently looking for collaborators to work together to produce a new fansub for this higher quality version of the 1994 series. I've already done one episode as a proof of concept for everyone here, I have no experience doing this kind of thing and my Chinese is horrible. This sub is not yet up to my standards it's just a proof of concept and there's still some things I need to fix in it.

Most of the translation work is already done, the process I'm using is to transcribe the old bad subs that anyone who's watched the 1994 series would be familiar with. Adjusting the rampant spelling and grammatical mistakes, and editing some of the lines using book translations as sources. I'll be using a discord server to organize my work, I've also provided tutorials there on how to do all this, if you're interested in helping check it out =). I hope to make some more progress over the next few months, I'm currently working on the first 5 episodes.

This is truly stellar. I have long wanted a decent quality version of the 1994 version especially in eng subs. This to my knowledge is the best quality I've ever seen. I had purchased a DVD set in hopes of better quality and eng translation than what was on YouTube but the quality and eng subs mostly were the same - really bad. At times the eng sub is so horrendous it either skips lines entirely, or goes by in a split second giving no time to read, or the grammar was really confusing.

I would love to help but I dont speak a lick of chinese and my free time is a bit constricted. Even still, I wouldnt mind helping if all I needed to do was time the eng subs. I wont understand the Chinese parts, but I would be able to help out if it came to timing the subs and grammar fixes. I wouldnt have the time available to work on it full time or even a whole lot, but I may be able to crank out a few episodes or so depending if I am able to help with just those two things.

I'm sometimes busy with real-life events but I can help; I know some of the context in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
I have something to say. Men of arms, heed it well.

Welcome to the project ZL181. Kongde I'm setting up the workflow in a way that should allow us to delegate tasks and work on different pieces at a time, there's no strict time commitments. This is not a full time project just something people can contribute to in their free time. And there's tasks open for people of all skill levels.
