I am intrigued, I liked 7 but I am not a hardcore fan. I think they will definitely need to made modifications to the story and script to plug in some of those plot holes. Also they need to make the middle section more meaty. Besides the legion of minigames you kinda wander aimlessly.

I would not be happy if they include the more modern FF battle systems for this remake. I want to control my entire party, I don't want the AI making decisions for me. One of the reasons I haven't played an FF game in years. I tried to play 12 but got frustrated with the lack of control and the licensing system.
Hahaha you think XII was bad? In XIII, you can defeat almost every single enemy in the game just spamming the x button with auto battle. It's so tedious basically playing on what feels like a long pathway for the entirety of the game (sans maybe an hour where it is pretty open), and then going through the monotonous battles. Wash, rinse, and repeat and there you have it, Final Fantasy XIII.
Yeah, i played a demo of 13 in a Gamestop and was puzzled by the battle system, I became cautious and waited until the reviews. I was confused by the reviews because some praised the game as neigh perfect yet others hated it. I waited a bit longer and after the hype wore off I started seeing more minor internet reviewers show it off while commenting on it and that was the final nail in my decision not to buy it. Sure even ingoring the battle system which turned me off completely, the story didn't seem like something I would like.

I can't comment on the other FF games besides 7 because I never played them. Although I like FF7 for its story, I never actually finished playing the original FFVII game and I find the gameplay slightly boring. I agree that being able to control the entire party is a big plus but the random encounters throughout the game makes it so tedious. It made me stop playing and I resorted to watching walkthroughs on Youtube while fast forwarding the random encounters. The never ending fights just tire me out.

The game play in Crisis Core was alright though. I think the makers of the game did say they will use modern battle systems because having realistic characters jumping forward to hit the enemy and jump back will make it look ridiculous.

Once you get out of Midgar Final Fantasy 7's story screeches to a halt and you kinda limp your way through a semi open world filled with minigames and tiny plot droplets.
Once you get near the end where Sephiroth makes his real grand appearance and you finally convince Cloud that he isn't a clone (spoilers i guess?) the game picks up again and things get interesting....leading to one of the worst one on one duels in gaming history. Nice ending cinematic though.

Well, if you put it that way, I guess I didn't miss much :) While I was watching the walkthroughs on Youtube, I spent so much time fastforwading through anything that is not connected to the plot. Hopefully, they will be able to work the story out better in the remake. No more stunted plot growth with unnecessary minigames, although I did find the bit where Cloud had to parade for Rufus hilarious.

I might sound harsh but the game is good, not the end all be all JRPG but it is a very well made game. If you have it laying around or can get it cheap it is worthwhile to play through at least once.
Then again I think that FF8 is also a decent game that should be played through once....not more then once as the Junction magic system is EVIL!!! :P

Forgive my crude comment, kind Sir; but I always play FF8 for laugh.
The story was hilariously cheesy, it was actually amusing for me.
As if I were reading a script, written by a dumb highschool boy who tried extraordinarily hard to make Squall looks "suffering" inside and "no one gets him". I like FF8, but not for a completely different reason with anybody else

The problem with Squall is that they tried too hard to recreate Cloud. To be honest he does a pretty good job of being a darker haired version of Cloud. The issue is that we have too many sequences of him thinking to himself, we get TOO much exposure to that jerk attitude and it comes off as annoying.
The story of 8 isn't all that bad until you start getting closer to the end. The mercenary protagonists, the Garden academies, and the attempts to assassinate the Sorceress plots are done well. When we get to the time traveling plots things start to fall apart.

There were a lot of good ideas, some good characters, however they were put together poorly and things kind of fall apart later on.

While I do still have problems with the story, including knock-off cloud aka Squall, the draw system absolutely ruins the game for me, just as the terrible dungeon crawling and practically RNG demon conversation kills Revalations: Persona for me.

I can understand that, I agree completely with the hatred that the draw-junction system gets. A turned based game needs to be fluid and FF8 failed that miserably. Battles take too long and feel terribly repetitive. Also you become scared of using magic as their use actively weakens you unless you avoid the spells that you assigned to your stats. Even if the story was better, the battle system can kill the game.

Again, I have a somewhat opinion of the minority. I like the junction system more than materia. FF8 doesn't afraid of letting you break the game, while FF7 were just felt like a dead-boring grind-fest to me. I like how the game basically gives you a win button straight after you got Siren. It gives you access to Curaga, Water, and even Demi if you're patient.

That's it, you won. You basically invincible. I wonder whether the game developer realize this or not
I once finish the game at level 8 lowest - 13 highest, pulled a random Lionheart killed Ultimecia in less than 10 seconds.
It was glorious

For people who expected a well-developed story and balanced gameplay, I could see how FF8 disappoint them.
For a player who just want to goof around, FF8 serves really well.
