To tell you the truth, I'm a tad confused (again). Was this what I was supposed to do?

Great work! I'll explain a bit of the code you are working with.

Code: Select all

[published]{URL}[/published]
This will be the address on Kongming's Archives where the article has actually been published. There's no harm in listing something prior to publication and in fact it is good as a suggestion. Once the article is published we obviously wouldn't change that address unless the article moved. It is included as a reference for anyone working on the article and to aid in search engine indexing between the two articles. It is not used on Kongming’s Archives.

Code: Select all

[div={SIMPLETEXT}]{TEXT}[/div]
This creates a <div> tag with a class of {SIMPLETEXT}. Once introduced into an article the <div> tag should be used in a way consistent with its current application. Prior to publication there's not much need to worry about the <div> tag. It will be used (and added) to apply CSS to groups of an article over at Kongming’s Archives. This allows me to apply some advanced formatting without complicating the work we do here. The class {SIMPLETEXT} can only include letters and numbers, and must begin with a letter. Translated into HTML, it becomes <div class="{SIMPLETEXT}">{TEXT}</div>.

Code: Select all

[aname={SIMPLETEXT}][/aname]
This creates a reference which will be used to link internally in a document. In simple English, now that you have entered this text somewhere, we can create a link elsewhere in the document that automatically jumps to this specific point in the article. The best use for this would be to create a page menu at the top of an article which can be used to jump to specific sections. If there is no need to jump to a specific section there is no need to include this reference. Translated into HTML, it becomes <a name="{SIMPLETEXT}" id="{SIMPLETEXT}"></a>.

Yeah that's what I thought. Everyone had a link already (from both examples) so I thought, why not make one up?

So, for this one I should just leave alone? Not even work with <div> tags?

Alright, I guess this one is understandable. That's what I thought it was after rethinking the coding. It's one of the reasons I thought I made a mistake with some of the warlord codings early on. I haven't updated it yet, but as I continue to think about it, I don't really need this code for the rulers section.

As a former student of computer science, this stuff should make sense to me. But then again, its probably why I'm not in CS anymore...

You know... now that I've thought about it, maybe it is best if we don't do that. The search spiders will be finding broken links. Since it will be going into Sango 2 maybe the best starting link will be http://kongming.net/sango-2/ and it can be changed as soon as the article is added. That way it at least points toward a legitimate valid page in the mean time (the same page from which the article would be announced).
Mikhail wrote:So, for this one I should just leave alone? Not even work with <div> tags?
There are some common <div> tags I use but it would take time to start recognizing them. It is probably best to begin articles without even worrying about them one bit and when I actually display the page on the site I can go in and add any <div> tags which may be needed.

Using this article as an example, you would certainly use this tag to link to each of the three campaign listings. We probably wouldn't link to each ruler in each campaign because far to many of them contain very little information (e.g. one city) and it would make the top-page menu quite long. Easier to jump to a scenario and scroll down an alphabetical list. Now if we were linking to an analysis of each ruler in each scenario things would be different. That would be a lot of information so we would expand the jump menu to include those sub-sections (or we would even divide the article into three parts).

This is really easy stuff. As a matter of fact, if you read up on the corresponding HTML tags (e.g. <p></p>, <a></a>, <ul></ul>, etc.) you'll get a very good understanding of just how this works. I imagine most anyone could get a good understanding of basic HTML markup (formatting data without concern of presentation) with a few hours of study (at most).

Yeah, those are the correct spellings in-game. I've checked it a bunch of times. It's "Chang Du" and there's an "Ung An". I haven't exactly figured out which city is represented by Ung An, but that's one of Liu Zhang's cities.

This game isn't exactly devoid of spelling errors.

So, where will it be published exactly?

Cool. So to give you an idea of how comments work, they appear here on SoSZ but they do not appear on Kongming's Archives. Once you (or someone else) resolves a comment, in this case because you know the entry is correct, you can go into the original post and either delete the comment or make a new one.

I actually updated the published address. That is where this article will be appearing shortly.

I'm fine-tuning the code which displays the article on KMA (so I can create multiple pages) and I'm working to build in some sort of banner that promotes this project here on SoSZ. Once I've done that (not much work left to do) I'll be putting this article online as well. And from there things at KMA are basically done aside from tweaking to support new features as we move along (well, and I need to implement a caching and backup system).

Generally speaking, aside from some more thorough instructions, this section is good to go. If you have another article you would like to start go right ahead! A nice article would be a gameplay tips article for Sango 2. Since a lot of people are going to be playing that demo it would be nice for them to enjoy a reference. :)
