Re: Cataloging Reign Years (for Online Novel, Encyclopedia, KMA)
I think you meant Feb 17 in Julian (which was used pre-1852), and the answer is both yes and no. That was because the change of reign years was issued on the seventh day of the first month, which is also why the second and third sources list put the beginning of Jian'an 1 as Feb 23 in Julian (...

Re: Cataloging Reign Years (for Online Novel, Encyclopedia, KMA)
I know about several few webpages/projects/programs that can calculate it, but I am not sure if their data can be dumped like the normal way. And their results may not be 100% correct either and require double cross-checking with historical records. https://sinocal.sinica.edu.tw/ https://authority.d...

Re: Project Feedback: New Romance of the Three Kingdoms Online Novel?
It seems like what Fornadan is asking for is a search function with results showing both Chinese texts and its English translation (BT) , which is similar to what I have been trying to do in the other thread with "legion" at ctext (which unfortunately covered only less than half chapters)....

Re: Cataloging Reign Years (for Online Novel, Encyclopedia, KMA)
The current layout of that page seems to be a bit clumsy.
Probably need to think of a better and simpler design, maybe reign by reign instead of year by year?
Also we actually have detailed month and day for when the change of reign name took place, which should be included as well.

Re: Project Feedback: New Romance of the Three Kingdoms Online Novel?
I am pretty sure there has yet to be a model that is capable of reading classical Chinese smoothly. If we can build one, that gonna bring us quite a few fortunes.

Re: Cataloging Reign Years (for Online Novel, Encyclopedia, KMA)
I am changing the focus to find currently available translation of the terms. For instance,we have the following reading of Rafe de Crespigny on the later Han reign names: https://openresearch-repository.anu.edu.au/bitstream/1885/212581/5/EstPeace%20for%20OpenResearch%20Oct2020.pdf Zhongping 中平 Peac...

Re: Project Feedback: New Romance of the Three Kingdoms Online Novel?
The Chinese original is referring to the same numbers for this example, but"a hundred and fifty (legions)" is not detected.
The novel should have several reference to weight, like those of unique weapons, but I recall BT already translated them into pounds?

Re: Three Kingdoms Units of Measure
The only expression available in Chinese for the number 1,000,000 is baiwan 百萬, lit. one hundred of ten-thousands. Right now I am under the impression that editing it back to the number would be a better choice. BT had no stable rendering of baiwan as a number of soldiers. Sometimes he would put for...

Re: Cataloging Reign Years (for Online Novel, Encyclopedia, KMA)
You are absolutely right that there was no explicit explanation for most reign titles in history. In my opinion, it is therefore more appropriate to opt for more natural and intuitive translations when we don't exactly know the roots of these terms. And in this case, when looking at x 初 names like ...

Re: Three Kingdoms Units of Measure
In most cases (but definitely not all), "legion" is BT's rendering of wan 萬 , which is a character simply meaning the number 10,000 and never used as a specialised military unit. Usually there were no such concept in the original Chinese texts. BT tends to use "legion" for this c...
