Re: Hou Han Shu Translations
Hmm, now that you mention it, that is a little odd. I recall reading some biographies a long while ago that said Xiahou Hui was poisoned by Sima Shi to avoid connection with the Xiahou clan, and that she had caught onto his family's plans. But isn't 234 a little premature for the Sima to be planning...

Re: Hou Han Shu Translations
I am familiar with it, though I have to admit the premise of Liu Xie having a body double/twin thing sort of turned me off. Yang Xiu did play a large role as Sima Yi's antagonist in Advisers Alliance though. He was the highlight of that for me. Of course, Emperor Xian had a body double... it was Zh...

What a wonderful idea! You might want to look into getting SeriousTrivia for an episode or two, he also really knows his stuff. Looking forward to this being released.

Re: 2023 - Catching Up
Oh, how life has changed. Four years ago I had just graduated from college, earning a degree in history and was preparing for a teaching job in Thailand, which gave me the experience I needed to start teaching in China. I taught English at the college level and found it quite rewarding, but I knew I...

Re: Hou Han Shu Translations
Cai Yan's purported poems are indeed powerful and I think you gave them an excellent measure of respect. The vision of a mother having to tear herself away from her confused children is heartbreaking, no matter the circumstance. I do think the reason for the ransom is an odd part of the history. As ...

Re: 2023 - Scholars is Back Online
What a fine turn of events and to see so many people already voicing their thoughts on its return fills me with hope. It's so nice to see so many familiar folk already flittering about. It is difficult to maintain forums these days with the ever expansion of Reddit, but I believe that Scholars of Sh...

Re: Anyalsis of Han Fu
It was interesting to see a leveled, jovial, and deep-dive analysis into the unlucky original governor of Ji. As others have said it was an unenviable position for a strong bureaucrat to be in as the era quickly moved from economic planning to military and strategic planning. What I think isn't appr...

Re: The Academic Corner of Sanguo
It's rather late but once I started reading some Actual scholarly articles on Zhuge Liang I couldn't help myself. Firstly, the adoption article was fascinating and that Cao Cao used the custom to reward fallen friends and allies speaks to his "family centered" approach which he has come to...

Re: Three Kingdoms Questions (You Ask, We Answer)
I'm aware of her advise to Yang Hu. My query is on another advise entirely. Let me quote KOEI wiki on that. "Like Wang Yuanji, she also viewed Zhong Hui with suspicion and confided in Yang Hu, "Zhong Hui is a person who does his actions on his own accord and will one day be someone who ca...

Re: Three Kingdoms Questions (You Ask, We Answer)
Did Confucius or any of his disciples have anything to say on the topic of bastard children? Let's see here... Well Confucius himself may have been a bastard child. His father and his mother were said to have had a "wild union" (granted what that exactly means have been debated since Sima...
