Re: Julius Cæsar Vs Cao Cao?
I don't think Cao Cao ever had his 'crossing the Rubicon' moment. There were a bunch of petty disrespects towards the court and the emperor in the novel, but his post as Prime Minister was not as ambitious as Caesar's posting as proconsul for eight years. I think Cao Cao would win in battle, assumin...

Re: Games vs History
Even if Shu was the legitimate heir to the Han, it's not as if the Han dynasty was a story of uninterrupted prosperity. A lot of the scholarly criticisms from the era only use Qin as a straw man to disagree with the regime without fear of being labelled seditious. The Eastern Han was the story of po...

Re: Oda Nobunaga Vs Cao Cao?
I think they were similarly ambitious and important to history. The story of the Three Kingdoms is about Cao Cao more than any other individual, even if he is cast as the villain. Nobunaga was the greater general though. He should probably be considered one of the best generals in Japan's history, a...

It's a good place to discuss a fascinating period of history. Also it's very accessible to the outsider.

Re: Grand Commanders
One of the most influential of modern generals thought it was Publius Cornelius Scipio the younger aka "Africanus." His life story reads almost like heroic fiction, from saving his father on the battlefield as a teenager to winning the Numidians over to his side, and eventually defeating H...

Did Koei quit?
Greetings, I've been away from the video game scene for a while so maybe there's something I missed, but it seems like the strategic simulation game company known as Koei no longer exists. It's not that I mind the Warriors series being their primary cash cow, just that it hasn't evolved gameplay wis...

Re: Romance of the Three Kingdoms Touch
I think I have the second version. Does it still have that digital map style?
Overall it's very disappointing for me. I wish that if they were going for abstract, they would have left the battles abstract like RTK 9 instead of doing it RTK 2 or 3 style.

Re: The Achaemenids
Herodotus was ignorant of or indifferent to Sargon as well. There are things that either gain historically through other cultures or that pass down their own tradition. Cyrus was considered to be one of the great kings by the Bible and his description there matches your original summary. Nebuchadnez...
