Re: What are you playing right now?
Trying to see if I can actually play some of the thousands of games I have before I buy whatever new one tickles my fancy. This has been my mission so far in 2023 (as you've probably noticed in the TONe game clears channel!) and I've been feeling good about it. I set my sights on a number of games ...

There are also some very practical concerns. A model which is trained will reflect biases in its training. For example, a machine learning program which evaluates resumes to select a more desirable subset for human review is very likely to 1) discard minorities, or 2) discard women. Why? Because th...

Re: Chinese “Spy Balloon” Spotted Over Montana
An Article on the Balloon Furor Over Chinese Spy Balloon Leads to a Diplomatic Crisis — New York Times Something—some things—about this are pretty curious to me. It's kind of hilarious for the stigma of an unidentified flying object being identified as a “weather balloon” to now be an object that l...

Re: What are your accounts on other social media sites (Twitter, Facebook, Linktree, reddit, etc)?
What’s happening right now at Twitter sure isn’t making me excited to hop onboard! Yes, I've used Twitter casually for a long time (not really in any of the deeper/professional capacities that would necessitate cultivating a network of contacts, for example), and recent changes have seen me using i...

Re: Final Fantasy Discussion Thread
Ironically, one of the common complaints about FF6 when it launched was that every character was the same (could learn all spells, have the same HP, etc.) and it was more of a menagerie. So the "point" of FF4 is that you're following a story and it only makes sense for certain characters t...

Re: Learned League
I participated in my rookie season of LL a few years ago and then backed out instead of paying to continue. I can vouch that it's really fun, but I kind of didn't want another "responsibility game" on my plate. It's interesting to see how large it has gotten since then!

Re: Happy Birthday!
Thanks everyone! I was awake for the other 50% of the day, but it was still swell. Cake, steak, a nice film, and some Dober love.

Re: Final Fantasy Discussion Thread
I found the pixel remasters to be notably easier than the original games (although it's not like FF6 was a particularly difficult entry).

To the folks getting logged out, make sure whatever link or bookmark you're clicking to come here has the 's' in https:// protocol ahead of the URL. I've had it happen in the past where I've had the site set to remember me on https:// and coming to the http:// version of the site makes me login again.
