RTK I–V Discussion Thread

New postby Stefanos on Fri Jun 13, 2003 12:11 am

To reduce the amount of threads dedicated to the earlier RTK games, this thread has been implemented. Talk about Romance of the Three Kindgoms I - V here.

A week ago, I've started playing RTK 4 (SNES version) and I've stumbled upon a "story" mode (this is for Senario 1) wherein Cao Cao forms an alliance will other rulers to depose Dong Zhuo.
I've played this Senario 1 dozens of times and this is the first time this ever happened :?.

I was wondering, did any of you noticed this? and if it did happen, did something like this happen in the later senarios?

Nothing like that has ever happened to me. What did you experience? Was there a text with animated characters?

Yes, there was text (dialogue boxes) and the characters portraits (IE. Cao Cao and Dong Zhuo).

What had happened was that, Cao Cao sends letters to other rulers, in order to form an alliance against Dong Zhuo. He then names Yuan Shao as the CIC (he does nothing except attack Gongsun Zan after this "story" part ended ) and you (the player), automatically align 3 years with the 8 rulers that will join you in your campaign against Dong Zhuo (the game will list who you aligned with).
Of course, Liu Ru notifies Dong Zhuo of the alliance and he (Dong Zhuo) laughs it off and says that since he has Lu Bu, he has nothing to worry (cheesy way of explaining it ).

It was so cool to have the "story" mode opened up (forces me to play the senario to the end ).

I liked Romance of the three kingdoms 2, but I never figured how to make my officers stay loyal. They always lost loyalty so fast. and went free all the time. You cant reward them fast enough. :(

Yeah, I hated it too :x. The only ruler that seems to retain loyalty (or the loyal won't drop as much) is Liu Bei (maybe Sun Jian too).

To prevent loyalty from dropping so much, I usually try to keep everyone's loyalty at 100. Whenever someone drops lower than 100, I try to reward him.

I am kind of OCD about numbers in Romance II, so I am not satisfied unless all of my generals have 100 loyalty. If it drops to 99, I will reward the guy with 10 or 15 gold. That way you stay on top of it and it doesn't get out of hand. Of course, this can get difficult if EVERYONE's loyalty keeps going down, but they implemented multiple-general rewarding in later Romance games.

To be honest, I think Romance II is my favorite to date, and I have played all but 5 (and the new ones--8 and 9). I absolutely love the province-based map screen with colour-filled zones instead of flags.

I don't think V was released for SNES. Only PS1 and PC.

There's no English version of it at all if that's what your looking for.
