Kuan Kung, the God of Wealth, or Kuan Yü, the God of War?

Earlier today I found a set of Guan Yu statues at a local store called Lotus. I could never mistake this guy, I knew who he was before I read any labels. The face, beard, spear, armor… it was Guan Yu.

Much to my surprise, however, the label read “Kuan Kung, the God of Wealth; a great Three Kingdoms hero…” Now I knew the guy was a modern Chinese God, but I had always though he was the God of War. Also, I have never seen “Kuan Kung” or anything like it. Can anyone shed some light on this? I asked the lady where she got “Kuan Kung” and she busted out a Feng Shui book for verification. Obviously it could be wrong, but I thought I would find out if he really was Kuan Kung, the God of Wealth (although where ‘God of Wealth’ comes from, I could never guess).

Looking forward to your replies. Hehe, I am also going to buy one of them, they are awesome.

Kuan Kung is the old spelling from Guan Gong, or (Lord Guan).

I have no clue about the god of Wealth though,.. we should ask Flo!

hey I just found out from a sources(too bad it is in indonesian) that said that Guan Yu's statue can prevent negative energy.So people who have it can avoid bad luck.

Guan Yu as God of War - Ridiculous, the only victory he ever achieve was by an act of god.

Guan Yu as God of the HK police - might be correct during the period prior to the early 80s because the HK police force use to be a bunch of corrupts officers.
