Background
The Legend of LuBu (LuBuZhuan, hereafter LBZ) is a MOD game, based on the game system of the popular battle chess game Legend of CaoCao (CaoCaoZhuan, hereafter CCZ) by KOEI. CCZ, originally released in 1998, is the third and last game from KOEI’s battle chess series about the Era of the Three Kingdoms in Chinese History. Well plotted and designed, its fluid gameplay sparked a trend of modding of which LBZ is an outstanding product. From script to battle design, LBZ is single-handedly created by tnu84 and released on the Chinese forum xycq (XianYuan ChunQiu), which has become a renowned CCZ modding hub with its many dedicated experts. LBZ is one of the first complete MOD to come out on the forum, and it follows the conquest saga of General Lubu, hailed as the most feared general of the era. With its touching plot, memorable characters, dialogues of wisdom and humor, and novelty in gameplay, LBZ has remained a classic.

Storyline
There are 2 different storylines branching out after Battle 20: The Mighty Despot and The Virtuous Ruler. Player will be asked to choose for LuBu his attitude on Power and motive in War at this turning point, which will determine his fate. Each storyline is unique in its battles, items to be obtained, and usable characters

Necessary spoiler: The Mighty Despot plot is one mighty tragedy, so please be forewarned. If you are one who believes gaming should provide happiness and no tears, play the Virtuous Ruler plot.

- Duels: WenChou (attack and defense increase) vs. YuJin (retreat)

- Items: Sacred Blaze Fan (if TianFeng remains)

Battle 18: GuanDu
- Mission for seal: obtain all 3 items
- Items: Wind Shield (DiaoChan converse with YuanShao before entering enemy’s camp)
Sword of the Saint (defeat GuoJia)
Gloves (defeat LiuHua)
- Events: DiaoChan vs. YuanShao (conversation)
At round 4, FengJi will converse with YuanShao, thereby the enemy’s morale increases
When LuBu and ZhangLiao enter Yuan’s camp, WuChao will fall and CaoCao’s troops will arrive the next round, resulting in defense decrease of Lu’s troops

Battle 19: The Town
- Mission for seal: all enemies eliminated at one point
- Events: At round 9, enemy troops will appear above the north bridge and left of the west bridge
At round 17, enemies appear on the left of west bridge, causing morale decrease in Lu’s troops

The conversation is HILARIOUS!

I'm kinda having a hard time with the font display, though. The bottom of each character is cut off by a bit. I wonder if it's because my computer's default non-English language is Traditional Chinese?

PS: Nevermind, it is. I switched my computer setting to Simplified and the fonts look normal now.

I'm also tickled that Ding Yuan is played by Evil Kongming! I love Zang Ba!

PPS: This is a very difficult game! Care to share some strategies? (xycq is down right now)

I am only up the the sixth level and going to restart to get those medals. Only advice I have offhand is for level 3, try to reach the gate and then block it with your units so you can pick off the enemies a few units at a time. Once you kill Sun Jian you should get out of there.

Hahaha, indeed, my file messed up. I loaded one of the pre-set Battle of Yongchuan saves instead of starting a new game, and it did screw up a few things! I have "Cao Song" now. But the Evil Kongming was hilarious!

I was stuck on battle 5 (well, I did something stupid, and didn't have a previous save game...) (btw, 滎陽 should be Yingyang, not Rongyang), so I started all over again, picking up the medals/seals from the first two stages. I can't trigger all 3 events at Sishui! If I go east to trigger the Hua Tuo/Guan Yu event, I get stuck there and can't get back to the west. But if I go west, my allies kill of Guan Yu so I can't trigger the Hua Tuo event. Argh!

PS: Wait... Lu Bu starts at level 1 and doesn't have tactics????

PPS: Battle of Changan---after defeating Jia Xu you get a 方巾 (bandana?).
