Thanks for the replies,
man X is really good for its time, you can tell Koei used to put more love and effort into their games.

I think titles from the emperor are based on the territories controlled (Ba Shu, Central Plains, etc)
It's been awhile since I played this so I may be mistaken.

Anyways, welcome to SoSZ Live Bait!

Thanks for the welcome.

I was wrong it isn't based on cities. It's provinces controlled and officers with hero skill. I actually paid a bit of attention while looking it up. 1 province and 0 heroes is protector, 1 province and 3 heroes is governor and so on.

Last night after taking Zi Tong, Cheng Du and Jiang Zhou I'm rushed into the council upon my return. Not paying attention to the map I thought, "Oh, maybe I just secured control of my first province my officers want to bestow titles upon me." Nope, it was just and envoy of Cao Cao with a gift of gold and friendship. I guess I should start preparing a place for my new friend who I expect to be making a visit sometime soon.

Last night while organizing a protest of the Ma Teng government to give my officers something to do while I took Zi Tong. I realized that I was going to lose my spy in Wu Wei when Ma Teng put all his officers on patrol to counter my protests, and sure enough my spy was sent home shortly after. Just thought I'd add this since having spies in cities seems to have a positive influence on the use of tactics also.

Mountain Pilgrimage Request cheat.

I'm not sure if this works on any other version than the PS2. But when you take this quest and visit all the mountains after visiting the final one the wizard/sage shows up and grants you +1 to all of your stats. If you allow the time for the request to run out before returning to the tavern to disappoint the nobleman you were doing the quest for you won't receive the 500 gold reward, but the request will be available again later and you can do it again for the +1 stats boost.

I know this is an old game but does anyone else still play it? I can't use the Steam version bc I don't know Chinese or Japanese, but I still boot up the PS2 and have a little fun. RTK13 is entertaining, but I don't find it as challenging and detailed as the older ones, this one included. Which is sad bc I find RTK X's AI to be dumb as a brick. But anyway, I had forgotten how soothing the title and travelling music are, and it's a nice blast from the past.

Yeah, it is a great game, probably my favorite of the series. I haven't played it for years but I had a lot of fun with it. Both duels and debates were well done and the versatility of being an officer trying to move up the ranks or starting your own rogue force gave it a lot of replayability. The music and ending videos were nice touches too imo.
But, yeah the AI was pretty weak and once you had marksman towers you could just wreck everybody with hardly any casualties.

Yeah it's my favorite too. I wish the English patch worked with the Steam version, but apparently it doesn't do jack squat. So I just use an emulator and my actual PS2 disc to play. I really wish Koei would release the PUK for English speaking players but oh well. The base game is still tons of fun.

I run into this when I'm trying to edit documents in Bethesda games to get mods to work. It might work here. What I do is right click the file (or exe or whatever it is) and go to "Properties". Try to see if it's marked as "Read-Only" at the bottom. Uncheck that box and see if that helps.

You also might have to set yourself as the Administrator or use the "Security" tab (after right-clicking on the file) to give yourself special permissions. Lemme know if that helps!
