Agreed Dong Zhou, couldn't have put it better myself, there seems little reason to doubt that the maids might have been equally unhappy, but to say they threatened Liu Bei is unrealistic, cause he's kinda've got an army, and these are mere maids lol. Between an army of maids and an army of soldiers, I think today those maids could probably win since they provide the meals, but back then is another story (jk).

I can still see why Liu Bei would be uneasy. In your own home, where you have to sleep and where your obliged to pay the odd "visit" to your wife and there are suddenly those that aren't loyal to you and they are holding weapons.

If he was actually so uneasy, would he have entrusted Liu Shan, his heir to her care?
The novel must have exaggerated the uneasiness.

Still, imagine how she felt; sleeping in a whole country/two provinces like that lol.

I suppose Striga strikes a good point, because nobody just entrusts their heir to just anyone, well at times it seems that way with Liu Bei what with Changban and all lol but even he probably would rather have Liu Shan alive and healthy.

It might have looked odd to the world and upset Wu if SSX didn't have charge of Liu Shan. Maybe it could have been an area where SSX was good at and Liu Bei didn't want to cause a needless row.

Btw, if she had custody of Liu Shan, what was Lady Gan up to? Just curious, because wouldn't she have her own input in regards to her son, maybe not any decision power but she would at least have some slight political influence regarding her son?

She was dead. I think that was one of the justifications for the new marriage?

In the novel, it was also due to Lady Gan's death that the marriage was even proposed. If Gan was still alive, and Bei was somehow married to SSX as well, then I would think that Gan would be raising Liu Shan.

Oh, well that explains a lot, still can't see Lady Sun being too popular with the rest of the harem, given how she was probably a go-getter and such strong and good women aren't usually all that well liked in these harems back in the day (they can't all be a Suk-Bin, capable of winning over just about an entire harem on account of her kindness lol).

Another question for clarification, was Lady Sun remarried after she returned to her brother's household? I can't see why not, because as the sister of the Emperor/King of Wu she would be highly marriageable property back in the day. Also, about Liu Bei, whatever happened to his other children? I've again, tried finding more details on them, but can't seem to find anything so was just wondering.

The two non Shan-sons lived, became Kings, had no poltical power, presumably had children. One fell out of favour due to his dislike of Huang Hao. Two daughters were captured by Cao Cao at Chang Ban but nothing is known of their fate, one daughter marries Ma Chao I think?
