The Riders of Rohan is overpowered. They know nothing of strategy, but still wins outnumbered battles because of courage.
So, it would be wise to say Riders of Rohans here.

Why so many Japanese names? I look at this thread in confusion most of the time.

Nelson is near un-defeatable as far as admirals go.

Yes he is, but Sharpe is fictional as far as I know of, and Bolitho was fictional well. Both had contact with Nelson in their books I believe.

Nelson was a great admiral but like many of the greats he took huge risks that could just as likely have become disasters as great victories. Stephen Decatur famously stated that if Nelson had encountered American gunners at Trafalgar instead of Spanish or French ones (because of the lack of sea experience and target training those navies suffered from) the British ships never would have made it far enough to penetrate the defending line .

Stephen Decatur sounds like a walking pile of arrogance and anti-british feeling that was running back then. American navy wasn't really that good. There was a reason that the English had undisputed naval domination.

That was an ironic statement.

The American navy was tiny back then not bad. It's amazing that such a small navy frustrated such a big one during the War of 1812 and it was exactly because of quality. You've missed the point. Spanish and French crews suffered from not putting out to sea often enough and having a low budget for target practice. American sailors tended to be lifelong sea dogs who would have been fishing, whaling or trading had they not been in the navy. Some of Decatur's crew on the USS United States had even served on the HMS Victory when he defeated and captured the HMS Macedonian.

Trafalgar was an extremely costly victory for the Royal Navy and if Napoleon had given a hoot about naval warfare and rebuilt the French navy then Trafalgar could have become a Pyrrhic victory.

Naval warfare during 1812 was pretty much the English forte. The Shannon did capture the Chesapeake in battle of course, in perhaps the most important naval battle of the war.


Besides, the US is the best fighting force right now. Even during the so call patriotic rebellion, if England used her full military power to fight the US, it would be over in a flash. The judges would call of the fight in fear for the Americans.
