Sorry about that! Wang the Tiger was supposed to be included in a special Wang edition, but the final release only included the standard Destiny of an Emperor. I'm creating the next revision of the game right now and when it is finished I will definitely include a Wang edition. :)

Hey, I have nothing to add to the current discussion about DOAE 2.0, since I don't even know what that is, so I'll just introduce myself.

I'm Aaron, but I go by the e-monicker Chzn8r (Cheezinator). If you recognize that name, it's because I have a half-assed guide for this game up on GameFAQs (which is also linked to from this website) from back when a half-assed guide for this game was better than nothing. I'm going to update it soon with all kinds of corrections and extra details - I swear!

I've been playing and-replaying DOAE since I was a little kid, and in the past few days I got a kick for it again and decided to replay it. After being through it once the normal way since last Sunday, I'm gonna do the low-level challenge (see my post in that thread).

For my first contribution here, I wanted to point out that you can get Dian Wei after Ru Nan but before you fight him at Luo Yang, actually removing him from that battle:

Ground-up remake of Destiny of an Emperor. Harder, interesting and fun additions.

My guide is still a mish-mash of content from 1998 through 2008...

I was pretty surprised to find that I went on for a moment about how you can't do this in the officers section of KMA. Normally when I do something like that it is because I tried! For some reason I always enjoy learning odd little things like this about DoaE, though. I wonder if this has something to do with the 'Dian Wei gained a level' glitch we've experienced from time to time while hacking the ROM...

One thing I noticed as I've been working on altering the text for my Yuan Shu Mod...when you go through the cave north of Fan Shui Guan and get the Gold Key, this makes Guan Ping, Wang Gui and Zhou Chao appear. If you do not get the Gold Key, they do not appear. This relationship has been obvious with Guan Ping since he's at the end of the cave...but with Wang Gui and Zhou Chao I think it was a mystery to most.

James I think this is why you never see Li Dian and whoever is at Chang An in Zhou Chao's place, because you probably skipped getting the Gold Key (since Lu Bu doesn't join you in the Cao Cao mod anyway so you probably figured what's the point).

My counter-example is that on my latest playthrough, I got the Gold Key (because I wanted Guan Ping), but Zhou Chao and Wang Gui were completely absent.

Hmm strange because I've done dozens of speed up playthroughs working on the mods and the Gold Key thing was always what brought out Wang Gui and Zhou Chao. Maybe it has something to do with the roms we are using but I'd bet that the Gold Key more often than not triggers the appearance of those two.

I go through that blasted cave as soon as it is accessible to me, without fail. Even if I'm not interested in the Gemsword I go in for the gold and Guan Ping. But that you've found any degree of consistency in your own game is impressive enough. It means there might actually be some trackable element to this.

Well there we go, I went through for the Gold Key and did not see Han Xin or Liang Ji in the Yuan Shu Mod (Wang Gui and Zhou Chao spots). So yea it doesn't look like that's an every time through type of thing. I would be willing to bet though that Wang Gui and Zhou Chao are tied together :)

But who cares, they suck. But their spots are important in DoaE mods where you can place useful officers in their spots :huohu:

For some reason I think there have been times that I've seen Wang Gui, but not Zhou Chao. Zhou Chao is extremely rare in my games. But it is hard to say as I don't really bother much with either of them (though I almost always notice when Zhou Chao appears at least). I'll start paying more attention to that.

Exactly! That's about all they are good for.
You know... I wonder if they are always there by default when you begin a new game? We could test that by using the walk-through-walls code and by hacking Liu Bei into a god at the start of the game.

Hey now. To save money on Resurrects/Inn trips, I actually did use both of them in my Lowest-Level playthrough. Only a couple battles each, but still.
