Prologue
The road has been safe enough. At least till now. Although his guards were amongst the elite warriors of the Empire, Matthias still felt something was wrong. Horribly, horribly wrong. But his tip to Viggard was a necessary one. His uncle, Count Silias of Viggard, died a natural death at 58.

Or at least that’s what the people think, Matthias thought grimly. Indeed the Count didn’t die of old age. A black rose was found resting on his corpse’s chest, a well known signature of an assassin brotherhood named The Black Hand.

Taking his mind off these matters, he thought about his trip. The coronation of the new Count, Silias’ eldest son, could not be held without a representative of His Imperial Majesty. And who better to represent the Emperor than his own son?

Still, he wondered why, why in Yulia’s name was he the only available member of the Imperial Family. He was the third son of the Imperial Family, the others being Honorus; the eldest; Alexius; the second-born; and Stephanos; the youngest. Honorus was completing paper-work; for he was recently elected Captain of the Imperial Legion and had to write his speech for the coronation. Alexius was at home with his wife and his newborn twin daughters. Stephanos had his head buried in A Brief Glimpse of Tactical History in the Empire, his final test for graduating the Military Academy being tomorrow.

Taking a closer look at his guard, Matthias recognized the features of a High Elf. He abhored High Elves, with their arrogance and so called “mastery” of spell-casting. What was a frail High Elf even thinking in wearing Legion Armor, anyway? Matthias continued to browse his guards. A particular face caught his eye. A pair of crimson eyes; white-blond hair tied in a rogue-knot; and long, pointed ears. Must be a Blood Elf. The rest of his company were Imperials, with the exception of an abnormally large pale-skinned fellow. Nords. Damn them and their putrid ale, Matthias thought. Did Chancellor Calèn want him killed? Next time he went on such a perilous journey, he would handpick his guards.

The lit towers of Viggard loomed into sight. It was nearly midnight, but an hour’s ride would bring them to the safety of the castle walls.

The prologue still isn't completed, I'm planning to
kill Mathias and the rest of the Imperial Family then starting the first chapter with a couple of high-profile people discussing the murder at the Emperor's funeral/cremation (haven't decided yet).

Edited by blicks23, the only guy I know who's proficient in English enough to edit it.
