Masculinity and American Society

I being a male myself am quite disgusted in products I see advertised. All these products designed to increase the size of your male member. Honestly do people think it will actually improve your life. These commercials for "Enzyte" on television suggust that it does. At first it was only advertised for people on internet pornography, "warez", and other lower class websites. It soon became common to get "spammed" by penis enlarging e-mails. Now they have invaded cable television in regular commercials.

They sad thing is that these advertisements prey on people with low self-esteem. They honestly think (assuming these products work) that a larger penis will make their lives so much better. Their money could be better spent on psychiatry or some means of therapy. It is quite sad indeed.

This topic may be a bit risque, but it is really annoying me. As great as capitalism is for the American economy, people are so eager to make a buck that they prey on people's insecurities.

Simlar products for women include the breast enhancing products. Just when you think that the breast implant fad is starting die (which doesn't seem to be happening), these pills/creams pop up. It sickens me that the world seems to judge women based on the size of their breasts and not on who they are as a person.

 Honestly, if anyone really does care about you, they won't judge based on the size of your breasts/penis and if they do, then they don't deserve to be your lover/friend.

Well, that is just my opinion, I'd like to hear you view on it.

All of my partners have said that size matters. Those drugs will not have any effect on the actual size. The only solution for those with low self esteem is surgery. I do not have to worry about with problem though :) .

I'd be lying if I said I never worried about it, i guess I still do.
I agree with Lu Xun's points though, what matter is that you love your spouse/partner, and all your "flaws" don't matter in the end unless you make them matter.
I would never consider buying those products, because I think there are better cures to low self asteem.

Size DOES NOT matter. It's what you do that matter.

Many people believed that the bigger the better because of media influence. Seriously, if Britney Spears don't get exploited for her breasts and all, the percentage of implants would go down. The same goes to any other celebrities.

For men, frankly they say bigger penis would give the ultimate pleasure in sex. No, this isn't true. For biological reason, the woman would be in pain if the size is huge. This is not good as it will damage the genitalia (I'm talking the truth). For logical reason, bigger size doesn't make any change. it's what you do with it that makes the change.

Simple as that. Those ads are sick, and they could increase the risk of damage done. People with low self-esteem easily fall to the ads trap because of those stereotypical view ("Size matters").

They better spend their money living a happy life with what they have, rather than doing no good to themselves.

I think that it's the personality that counts the most, but a quick poll of my coworkers and they seem to think different. I guess it's to each his/her own, then. Personally, I'm content with my masculinity and confidence is very important. (A lot of people say I'm overconfident, but they're right!) The people who market these types of things are just using smart strategy; they go after people with low self esteem that have problems getting dates and maintaining relationships. I wish crap like this didn't happen, and I hate to see people (especially weak defenseless people) get exploited and manipulated because the size of their sex organs. This is the way I see it: I was born this way, if I'm not comfortable with the size it won't do any good because it's not going to magically grow any bigger and I won't buy these products. I have my pride, ya' know. So I just accept what I was born with, radiate confidence, and try to live happily. I suggest to all those out there with this size hang-up to do the same. 8-)

Iznoach, you and I think exactly the same on this one. I'm compltely content with everything about me. I mean I could get all defensive and talk about penile size and stuff, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't make you a better person. Here is a clue: Your penile size has nothing to do with you, you didn't "work" on it and it didn't take any effort. You were born with it and that is it. Like one time I was with a group of girls and they started giggling for no reason and so I asked them why and they got really shy. I just assume because I was jokingly talking about streaking, yet they denied that long story shot, they said they heard I have large member (I beg to differ). I just said: "What am I supposed to say? Thanks? It has nothing to with me as a person, I was just born with it."

I think that attitude helps you out. Don't try to get by on physical aspects. It won't always work. Instead improve upon yourself, and be a better person. Also accept yourself as who you are, you're probably better than you think.

Exactly, Lu Xun. In addition to what you said and my previous post, I'd like to add a quote that somebody told me a long time ago:

I don't remember who told me this wrote:"Don't waste your time putting yourself down, everyone else is going to do that. Instead, spend your time building on yourself".(basically making yourself better).

It's a good quote, I think, and could actually help some folks.

It isn’t about self-esteem entirely, the reality is that a lot of men/women are interested in having a larger size. I know plenty of girls who tell me they want larger breasts, and I know about plenty of men who would love to have a larger size. The media plays a role in this with people like Britney Spears, because of her women AND men have decided “the perfect breast size”. I honestly don’t care the products are available to the public, what harm can it do? It does make some people happy, though I personally have no interest in increasing my size nor am I interested in my fiancé to increase her breast size.

I just noticed that I wrote "do" instead of "know" no one take that the wrong way.

Well, we can blame this on the media and society (adding it to a list of things like anorexia). Emotional abuse can fly both ways in a relationship; a female can place incorrect priorities just the same as a man. The final product is a market for things of this nature, and a need for some people to have them.

Personally, I think there are better things to worry about. How about something that will actually help you out in the long run, doesn't depend on unproven medicine, and won't break down anyway some time in your 50s or 60s. Heheh.
