What does it mean to be American?

I also agree that being American simply means to be born in America. :)

I don't think that we can give anybody anywhere in the world any kind of country-wide reason for their nationality without being wrongly stereotypical. You get poor people in rich countries like America, and you get uneducated people in countries with stricter education such as (parts of) China, so I think that it's impossible to give everybody the same meaning for who they are. :wink:
