I would like to add the website I run to this list - http://www.medievalists.net - which is basically for anyone interested in the Middle Ages. We post news, articles, videos, resources on all medieval topics - for example, we interview scholars and writers about their books and research. One of the recent interviews we posted was with Tommaso di Carpegna Falconieri on his book The Man Who Believed He Was King of France: A True Medieval Tale - http://www.medievalists.net/2009/01/05/interview-with-tommaso-di-carpegna-falconieri/. We are also developing a database of all academic medieval articles online (those freely available) - we are at about 450 right now, and add a few each day (there are thousands of the out there, it just takes a while to get them posted). We hope to make it a very large and useful website, so please let us know if you have any suggestions. Also, the other site I run - www.deremilitari.org - The Society for Medieval Military History, has quite a lot of online resources, including articles, primary sources and book reviews.

There's a lot of stuff relevant to the discussions on here from the Command & General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth. They even cover stuff like the Chinese Civil War and the Soviet invasion of Manchuria at the end of WW2 that nobody else seems to write about in English.

Let us begin with Zeus, whom we mortals never leave unspoken.
For every street, every market-place is full of Zeus.
Even the sea and the harbour are full of this deity.
Everywhere everyone is indebted to Zeus.
For we are indeed his offspring.

Hi Mistelten,
I think history is the subject which most of the people like. You have shared the links on samurai. You also have provided a link on An American folk song. I really thank you for it as I am always interested in history. Besides can you provide me some precise links on the mammoths and the Spartans as I want to study more about them. Thanks.

I would like to add two more websites:

http://historyoftheancientworld.com/

http://earlymodernengland.com/

- both have news, articles and videos related to ancient history (including China), and English history from the 15th to 19th centuries

This is a listing of sites that legally offer free books on History, for reading and listening (audio).

All of these sites listed have content that is legal for them to distribute. If you find that any site listed is offering content that can not be legally transferred, please let me know in the comments below.

Also, I would appreciate it if you would post comments about any sites that you like or do not like so that information can be added to the site's listing here. This would help new users to decide which sites to try.

This list is not comprehensive and if you know of any other sites please post in the comments below or at our forums.

A comprehensive alphabetical listing of free books for reading or listening can be found on these pages:

http://www.techsupportalert.com/content ... online.htm

There will be other books on History at the sites listed there, but they are not categorized at the sites.

Libraries are also an excellent source for reading and listening materials regarding history. To find out more information on your local library, the links here may help: Library Information

There are 12 other book pages here at Gizmo's covering other various popular book genres and offering links to free online books listed here: Book Genre Pages
