Cao Cao's advisers

Unread postby dengai » Thu Jul 29, 2004 10:57 pm

Who do you think is cao cao's best adviser?
Cheng Yu?
Guo Jia?
Xun Yu?
Kong Rong?
Xun You?
YAng Xiu?
Sima Yi?
Or Jia Xu?
Please explain.

They are the hardest to compare because they faced different people.
Sima Yi faced ZHuge Liang and kind of won but the others never lost to Zhuge Liang.
I don't see a point in this, everyone can copy it.

I like Guo Jia, but I also like Sima Yi, except for the whole betrying part, not a big fan of that. Except Sima Yi isn't on the poll.

Guo Jia will always be Cao Cao's best advisor seeing he led cao cao to many victories, and with his death the loss at chi bi proceeded it so i think thst guo jia is the best...
It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If we take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale. Understanding others - other people, other beliefs, and other nations - will help you become whole.

yes, things that Cao Cao still lacks are right strategy, lucid mind at important moments and trust in another person.
Only Guo Jia can full fill that,no one else.

Guo Jia was Cao Cao's best advisor, followed closely by Sima Yi and Jia Xu.

Xun Yu

Unread postby ZhangBaihu » Fri Jul 30, 2004 8:21 am

I'd say Xun Yu is far and above the others. He seemed to be Cao Cao's top advisor for the definitive years of his rise to power (defeating Lu Bu, Yuan Shu, and Yuan Shao). His stratagems like the "Rival Tigers Fighting For Food" showed a crafty far-sighted planner. I seem to recall when Cao Cao was facing his biggest challenge and was surrounded by Yuan Shao, Liu Biao, and others he left Xun Yu to guard the home front while he was off campaigning at Guandu. Must have been a very reliable man in many ways.

I like how you said advisors, and not strategists, first of all.

I would have to go with Guo Jia, as he was one of the major reasons Yuan Shao was defeated. Xun Yu was great as well, but Cao Cao lacked trust in him, as all his other advisors. Heck, we could all be saying Guo Jia was best simply because Cao Cao favored him. That's what happens when you have so many advisors. Jia Xu was great, but we only truly see his greatness when he against Cao Cao. Therefore, while he's probably the best advisor out of the group, he wasn't Cao Cao's best.

Argh! Hard to choose. Xun Yu prevented Cao Cao from losing at Guandu by rallying him in a letter and helped build Cao Cao's powerbase. Jia Xu saved Cao Cao's army from defeat at Tongguan and helped him choose an heir. Cheng Yu's advice at Chibi would have saved Cao Cao. Xun You submitted several brilliant plans during his lifetime and Guo Jia helped defeat Yuan Shao and Lu Bu. Yang Xiu was more of a scholar like Kong Rong and Sima Yi was more of a field commander during Cao Rui's life.

They were all brilliant in different ways but if I have to choose one, I would pick Xun Yu, followed by Guo Jia and Jia Xu. Xun Yu built up Wei during the early years and was an upright and honest man. He spoke out against Cao during the lord-patriach promotion and he was forced to commit suicide. However, his feats were remembered and he was posthumously honoured. He was the best by a whisker in my opinion.

Guo Jia. All of the others were good. But his single, greatest achievement outshines them all.

Xun Yu.
He was Cao Cao's very own Xiao He,taking care of business at home while Cao Cao was out campaigning.
The others did their job in the camps on the frontlines but the fact that Xun Yu was entrusted with such an important job shows his quality.
