Zhao Yun and Zhuge Liang did not wanna take part in a conflict that involves foolishly attacking. What Wu did is strategicly defending. Very different. And Zhuge Jin was an advisor during Yiling. He was there. Also, if Taishi Ci captured Liu Bei, he would have given the him to Lu Xun or Sun Quan, he will not decide wheater to release him or kill him. And if he was alive, he would have fought Guan Yu just like Xu Huang did.

Guan Yu's relationship with Taishi Ci is unknown as in the novel and history, all they do is fight together. Guan Yu and Xu Huang, on the other hand, were almost like brothers. As Xu Huang says in SGYY, "My lord, I remember the days when I was under your tutorship and I thank you for that." There would not have been a repeat with Taishi Ci. Also, Zhuge Jin was not at Yiling but at Jianye, advising Sun Quan.

I am of the opinion that, were Taishi Ci alive, and stationed with Lu Xun's forces, he would have fought against Liu Bei. Perhaps it would have been difficult, but it seems to me that the most loyal of men fought hard for their current lords, even if they had sentimental attachment to their anatagonist. Furthermore, the defense of Gongsun Zan was more of cooperating for a common goal; Taishi Ci never pledged his fealty or even service to Liu Bei.

Taishi ci died when Sun Quan first attacked He Fei after Chi Bi(Red Cliffs)
, but if he did live that long I think he would still have fought with Liu
Bei. He is loyal and will fight if it is his orders.

Sima Hui wrote:Liu Bei fought with Yuan Shao at Hulaoguan, but fought against him during the Yuan Shao and Gongsun Zan conflict. Cao Cao was a great friend of Yuan Shao, but they fought each other. Cao Cao called Liu Bei his brother, but they became mortal enemies. Liu Bei and Sun Quan were brothers-in-law, but Liu Bei tried to tear Wu apart. Xu Huang and Guan Yu were the closest friends, but Xu Huang said he would give one thousand gold coins to the killer of Guan Yu. Taishi Ci rated loyalty above honour and would have fought Liu Bei if he was still alive. One moment of friendship would not count thirty years later during a war between his lord and Liu Bei. Helping him or defecting would be out of the question. Taishi Ci would have died ten thousand times before doing something like that.

This sums up my feelings on the matter.

Taishi Ci would have fought to the death, be it historically or in the novel. He'd pledged his loyalty to the Sun family. If Liu Bei had conquered Sun Quan, perhaps Taishi Ci would have joined him then, but he was a man of loyalty.
