Lu Bu: Smart or Cowardly?

Unread postby Lord_Zhuge000 » Wed Jun 16, 2004 7:54 am

Lu Bu is shown in SGYY and in the Dynasty games to be the ultimate, unbeatable warrior. However, the original SGZ text contradicts this. Was Lu Bu smart in his actions, taking time to implement his ultimate plan?
Or was he simply a coward, easily lead and afraid of death?

Yeh, but he betrayed every single person he ever served. That's gotta stand for something. He even tried to sway Cao Cao right before he was executed, and if it hadnt been for Liu Bei, he probably would have succeeded.

In the SGYY, you can see how cowardly he is when he begs for his life in chapter 19, but for the rest of the time I would say he was pretty brave. Perhaps he didn't need much courage going into battle though, since he was so sure to come out of it alive. I'd say he's just stupid, listening to slander and falling into enemy ploys too easily. He only needs a little encouragement before he does something unexpected (i.e kill Ding Yuan, kill Dong Zhuo, take Xia Pi and generally not follow Chen Gong's advice.).

I don't think he's either. He never was smart, as he always went head first into the midst of battle without thinking. However, he hardly ever showed cowardice, it was all brute strength and courage to Lu Bu.
So, I say Lu Bu was not a coward, just basically an idiot.

Well nothing wrong with wanting to live I think.
I don't think he was a coward,more of a complete fool.

He was cowardly, just not meek. IT is cowardly to stab somebody in the back, figuratively. However, he did fairly bravely and rationally create peace between Liu Bei and one of Yuan Sh(ao?)(u?)'s generals.

a bit of both
So much the stronger proved
He with his thunder: and till then who knew
The force of those dire arms? yet not for those,
Nor what the potent victor in his rage
Can else inflict, do I repent or change

I cant say he was cowardly cause he fought the three oath brothers for how many boutes, but I am not saying he was smart that is how he got caught by Cao Cao.
Why do you cower to death. Nothing lasts forever.

Why should you be consumed by darkness when the light is still shining.
