Well since finishing Hua Tuo's SGZ bio, been a little restless today. But I don't want to tackle anything big like another translation of an officer's bio yet. I need to relax after over a month of translating. Summer is just around the corner :)

A lot of readers that have only read SGYY, or limited to reading english translations of SGZ bios don't know that much about Cao Cao sons.

Everyone knows about Cao Pi who would become emperor; Cao Zhi the poet; Cao Zhang the 'Golden beard' general; Cao Ang who died giving up his horse for his father's escape; Cao Chong, Cao Cao's most loved son who died young after Hua Tuo's death; Cao Xiong and maybe a couple of others.

But in fact, Cao Cao had a total of 25 sons!

So I did a partial translation from SGZ scroll 20: Book of Wei 20: Cao Cao and Cao Pi's sons

The Wu Huang Di (Cao Cao) had twenty five sons:

Zhao Yi is not Lady Wang's name, it was one of the rank of concubine after the Empress. 8-)

Wow  Cao Cao was truly the mack daddy of the Three Kingdoms period. Six wives (I'm guessing not all at once though.. then again...) and six concubines. What a way to live!

Odd though how some of his sons have the same name (I counted two Cao Jun's and I think two Cao Ju's). I guess all that pimping made him forget some other possible names

Ya, I kinda had a hunch it was something like that. That's why in the note at the bottom, I've asked if anyone knew what this rank would translate into english would be. Still waiting...

Count it again. It's six wives, six concubines, and Lady Wang for a total of 13, not 12. And it has been rumored that Cao Cao had a total of between 25-30 wives, concubines and mistressess. But these 13 are the officially recorded ones in history. So it's only Mr. Mack Daddy (Cao Cao) that knows the exact number of how many women he had in total

As for the naming of the sons, they are different names in chinese. But the pinyin for them is spelt the same way but with different pitches.

[Regarding the similar names] Ah.. I see. Thanks for clearing that up :)

And once again WOW at the number of wives he might have had. Yet another reason that Cao Mengde is my role model

Cao Cao certainly gives Kangxi Huang Di a run for his money when it comes to "planting his seeds".

Zhao Yi (昭儀) - bright (?) appearance

Shu Yuan (淑媛) - Virtuous and beautiful woman

Gui Ren (貴人) - noble/aristocrat...although I think Gui Zu (貴族) is the more precise word for that...
