 Good god man, I only wanted one. Is one of those just a character as a name, or do they all mean something?

Of course each individual character means something. And it depends on what you mean by name, first name or last name? Theoretically then can all be first or last names.

Common last names for "Lun" would be - 倫 or 侖.
As for first names, it can be anyone of them, depending on what the parents wanted to name their kid.

More translation assistance

Unread postby James » Sat May 17, 2003 10:43 am

I just translated around 550 Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX names to Pinyin, and well, I am no master. Here are a few translations that gave me some trouble, kicked my ass, or that I was uncertain of. The more important problems are at the top. Thank you very much to anyone who can assist me with this.

This name should be Fei4 Yi1. And here's the traditional text to it '費禕'

James wrote:全祎
Quan2... what?

It's the same as the one above, it's Yi1.--->Quan2 Yi1.

James wrote:寗随
Ning2 Sui2?

Yes it its Sui2.

James wrote:李榷
Li3 Que4?

Yes on both words.

James wrote:乐进
Le4 Jin4?

Yes on both.

James wrote:王买
Wang2 Mai3?

Not sure on the right one for Wang, but Mai3 is correct.

James wrote:王门
Wang2 Men2?

Again not sure on the Wang, but Men2 is right.

James wrote:郭马
Guo1 Ma3?

Not sure on the Guo, but Ma3 is right.

James wrote:刘琮
Liu2 Cong2?

Yes. Right on both words.

That's all I know. Sorry, I'm not too fluent in mandarin. Can't help you more. Also, like I said before I can't read all simplified characters. So I don't know some of those words. Can you put it into traditional text?

Just wondering...

1.) "X" is pronounced as "Sh" correct? If it is, would Xu Shu be pronounced like "Shu Shu"? (heh) They just spell it differently to indicate 2 different words, but they're like homophones right?

Thanks.

Edit: I forgot to ask this too (might've been asked before)... but why is it that in the book Xu Zhu's name is Xu Chu?
