Names of every Chinese Kingdom and meanings?

Unread postby Zhouman » Sun Sep 22, 2019 4:23 am

Simple.

No matter how big or small and whether they united or were dominant in China or not say the name and it's definition(s).
Kingdom doesn't mean a literal kingdom, just a political entity.

Unfortunately it isn't simple.

Liang alone had tens and tens of factions, most without a established name bar who led them, there were all sorts of groups that had their moment in the regional sun and then were destroyed in infighting and by bigger powers. Listing all of them would require a lot of research and time

It's for a project of my own. I am explicitly avoiding names of unifiers and keeping it old and middle chinese.

Not only it isn't simple, it's also unclear. Is this just about the Three Kingdoms period or all the period in China?

Some don't have much of a meaning. For example, Qin borrows its name from the place its power base was located. Not all dynasties were named after their base of power, however. Ming means bright, for example. There was also some dude who founded the Chen dynasty just because it was his surname.

No, Chen was his fief/power base. That Chen was also his surname was a coincidence.
