Thanks very much for this. Is there any indication of why Qu Yi mutinied? You mention that Qu Yi may have been in contact with Yuan Shao, but would the two have had any prior relationship? I recall Qu Yi being said to be from Liang, but nothing else.

Your right in that it does mean that also. No problem at all

None whatsoever. I'm just suspicious due to the timing and that Yuan Shao had been building contacts in Ji

I suppose it is possible Qu Yi might have at one point served in the capital as a miliatry officer but there is nothing to suggest he did, all we know of his pre Ji days is that Wang Can's work Yingxiong ji says he had gained miliatry expirence in Liang.
