Hsün Yüeh (A.D. 148-209): The Life and Reflections...

Unread postby Xu Yuan » Mon Jan 25, 2016 7:34 am

On a random search I looked up "Knight-Errant Yuan Shao" and I came across a book from 1975 about a personage I've shockingly never heard of. Xun Yue He was a member of the Xun clan and worked hand in hand with Emperor Xian and Xun Yu. From the excerpts I've read from the book it seems fascinating! My question was if anyone has read this book and can shed some more information on it before I commit to buying it?

I haven't heard of it before, would be awesome if it is good! All I can say is I gave the bibliography a once over and there were a few names I recognised on there.

Did anyone ever buy and read this? It's on my amazon wish (dream) list but I'm trying to decide how big a priority it should be!

I own it, and I put up a few (academic) book reviews on the Academic Corner. It has something of a sequel, as Chen translated two of Xun Yue's works, added his annotations, and published it a few years later.
Alone I lean under the wispy shade of an aged tree,
Scornfully I raise to parted lips a cup of warm wine,
Longingly I cast an empty vessel aside those exposed roots,
And leave behind forgotten memories and forsaken dreams.

When I stumbled on this old thread I knew I'd seen the title somewhere recently! I'd noticed you'd posted the reviews but I haven't read them yet. I'll check them out shortly!
