Qiang ? Nanman ?

Unread postby Sima Ye » Sun Jun 15, 2014 8:36 am

Hello, i have searched about the Qing tribs who suppose to be at the Northen border of China during the Three Kingdoms period, with huge number of warriors mentioned in the novel, while what is written about them is that they live south and they are very few nowadays which is not reasonable they should normally be more that two thousand years ago, also the Nanman Tribes are considered a rare minority how come they revolt on the Shu Army with huge army ? if anyone can give a cridble explanation regarding these two tribes in real history i would appreciate it, Thanks.

Qiang(羌) and Nanman(南蛮) are general appellations for the tribs whos lives in west(northwest) and south China in history just as Yi(夷) tribs in east,Di(狄) tribs in North and also Rong(戎)(another name of west barbarian in different dynasty) in west. These tribs is called against ZhongYuan(中原) also HuaXia(华夏) which means the centre of the world.
First, we chinese people usually means the Han peole has an idea which called "Hua–Yi distinction(华夷之辨)" detailed in wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hua%E2%80%93Yi_distinction.

Qiang people were mentioned in ancient Chinese texts as well as inscriptions on the oracle bones of 3,000 years ago. However the ancient Qiang people referred to in these ancient texts were a broad group of people and the ancestors of the modern Tibeto-Burman speakers, they are therefore not the equivalent of the modern Qiang people who are a small branch of the ancient Qiangs. You can get thes from wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qiang_people and
http://ultra.ihp.sinica.edu.tw/~origins ... rbook4.htm

Nan(南) in the word "Nanman" means south of China and Man in "Nanman" means barbarian. It is a multiple ethnic groups including the Miao, the Kinh, the Thai, and some Tibeto-Burman groups such as the Bai. There was never a single polity that united these people. So you can not find a people who is Man or NanMan nations. for details you can refer to wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanman
Generally speaking , in the long period history of China, national amalgamation is a trend. Many tribs fell,Many tribs amalgamated with each other. They made China and the brilliant history.
forgive my poor english.
