Because he was a eunuch? I imagine they would have known his He connections and as long as people weren't trying to kill them or slander them, the likes of Zhao Zhong were not against open debate

Don't know the answer to the question

According to Rafe all twelve are named in HHS, 78/68.
I looked up HHS 78/68 and found some of them, not twelve though (only 9) and some names suprised me, when you take the following quote in mind:

To Establish Peace wrote:In the sixth month [of the year 185 A.D.] Zhang Rang and eleven other Regular Palace Attendants were enfeoffed as full marquises for their good work during the campaign against Zhang Jiao.

the names I found:

1) Zhang Rang
2) Cao Jie (died in 181 A.D.)
3) Lü Qiang (slandered by Zhang Rang's faction, committed suicide in 184 A.D.)
4) Cai Lun
5) Zheng Zhong
6) Cao Teng (Cao Cao's father)
7) Sun Cheng

8) Hou Cao (never heard of this one before, not the guy who served Lü Bu)

I can't translate the following name:
9) 單超

btw, just another quote from Rafe that proves there really were twelve:

To Establish Peace footnote on Zhang Jun by Rafe wrote:There were at this time twelve Regular Palace Attendants, and HHS 78/68, 2534, lists their names. Zhang Jun is giving only an approximate figure.

So I found 9 now, 3 still missing, but when I look through HHS I often see these following 3 names together with Zhang Rang:

10) Zhao Zhong
11) Sun Zhang
12) 郭勝 (can't translate; Google says "Kwok Shing")

Zhao Zhong would make sense, because Emperor Ling referred to him as "mother" while Zhang Rang was "father".

Sorry for the double post.

My post above is incorrect.... have been looking for the names for a while now so when I thought I found them I posted them here straight away without a second thought... I had another look at HHS though and now I found some different names.

I posted them on my wiki here:
http://thethreekingdoms.wikia.com/wiki/ ... Attendants

have a look and tell me what you think. I think, this time, I found more or less the correct list.

sidenote: the "Kwok Shing" in the post above was Guo Sheng.

Do you have the Chinese for some of the names? I can look up the Chinese easily enough, but a couple guys there aren't in Rafe's dictionary. Like, Hou Cao (I have a famous eunuch named Hou Lan, who died in 172). Also, Shan Chao (the name you didn't know), another Eunuch, but died in 160.

Guo Sheng/Mai was a palace attendant, but he was the one who tipped He Jin off on Jian Shou's plan to kill him, which stopped said plan in the beginning, mentioned a few posts back by Dong.

yea it's all in that link

here it is again:
http://thethreekingdoms.wikia.com/wiki/ ... Attendants

All names in Roman + traditional Chinese and the paragraph I took it from.

Edit: sorry, I guess you were referring to my first post. All names + traditional Chinese (copied from my wiki):

Cai Lun (蔡倫)
Cao Jie (曹節)
Hou Cao (侯覽)
Lü Qiang (呂強)
Sun Cheng (孫程)
Zhang Rang (張讓)
Zheng Zhong (鄭眾)
Shan Chao (單超)

took those names from this:

HHS wrote:

btw, I can't find anything about Han Kui, Li Song, Sun Zhang and Zhang Gong on Kongming. Are they mentioned in Rafe's Bibiolgraphical Dictionary?

Ok, Hou Cao is Hou Lan (character is Lan in the dictionary I use online), so thats one minor mistake.

Han Kui: There but no info, eunuch and enfeoffed as marquis.

Sun Zhang: Same

Zhang Gong: Same.

Ah too bad, was hoping the Tome would have some more info on them. Is that really all? No mention of any relatives or family or whatever? Or perhaps what they're specialised in and if they were with Zhang Rang & co to kill He Jin?

And about the twelfth, who do you (or anyone else who reads this topic) think it could be? Does Rafe's Tome mention a name? I personally guess it's Zhao Zhong.
