I am playing a oldschool rpg on PS4, with SNES graphics, called Alvastia Chronicles. I bought it last week, while it was on sale for $8. It is a RPG, where you recruit 100 companions/allies with varying skills and stats, on your quest to defeat the Archfiend Valhyt. Some will join right away, some you can buy at the battle arena, some are conditional, and some will require you to recruit an entire class of characters before joining you. I am currently halfway through, and am having a blast. It was easily worth the $8 I bought it for. I give a thumbs up.

I really miss the Suikoden franchise.....I wish there was a new one on the modern consoles. If I can't have a new Suikoden, it is good to get a rpg inspired by one of the best rpg series like Suikoden. It might not be as good as Suikoden, but it is still plenty of fun. I almost don't want this one to end.

Edit:This game continues to pleasantly surpise....I beat the game and thought it was over, and not only does it continue on, but you get a post game mission. A few extra sub quests added, new arena special characters to unlock, and extra companions to recruit aswell, all that bonus additional content. All in all, this game has really grown on me, after I forgave the SNES graphics. It was a good addition to the PS4 library. Very addictive. Heck I liked this game so much, i bought another game from the same company(Kemco), in that same universe called Dragon Sinker. It stars Abram, a legendary prince, and dragon slayer. He is one of the special characters you can earn tokens, and buy/unlock in the battle arena of Alvastia Chronicles. I am going to have to keep tabs on Kemco, solid, quality old school RPG goodness. And the best part was, that I got them both for $14 with my account chump change, during a Playstation Store promotional sale.

I didn't need it, but i also saw that they have additional in game purchase options, to make this game beatable for anyone. This is how you make a classic old school type rpg.

Venus Blood Frontier. Excellent and deep conquest slg, similar in some way to Sengoku Rance but with more of a focus on unit composition and deployment. It's a porn game, but the porn is terrible and disgusting. I play these games for the gameplay unironically anyways. I love strategy conquest rpg games and this one has scratched my itch. I have over 100 hours on it.

My friend has been playing Banner of the Maid, some kind of Napoleonic era Fire Emblem/FFT type of game, and I'm contemplating picking that up too. However, with the steam summer sale around the corner I'm going to wait for that first.

I beat Alvastia Chronicles, and then beat Baulder's Gate 1 - main story, and am now going through BG1 - Seige of Dragonspear Castle. I absolutely love this game, the story, the exploration, the lore, and the easy controls. I can see why Baulder's Gate 1 & 2 are regarded so highly as one of the best RPG series of all time. Hopefully when I get there, part 2 will be as good/better then part 1. Baulder's Gate 1 & 2 Enhanced Editions is excellent so far, I give a well deserved 10/10.

Baldur's Gate 1 was probably one of the very first actual PC games (if not counting DOS games like One Must Fall 2097 and Jazz the Jackrabbit) I played as a child and yet even though I didn't understand a single word of English back then, the atmosphere and the gameplay alone were factors that still make it one of the best games I've played 'til today.

Back to the topic though, I started playing Baldur's Gate 2, as the third is closing in fast. I played the first installment through years ago, but never really got playing the second one. On the first try I played it for a couple of chapters, but didn't really venture outside the city of Athkala and missed most of the dungeon crawling by just doing side quests here and there.

So far, I've been loving the game. Only problem is, that I get to play it during the evenings and these sessions usually won't last just for a few hours... it's 3:26 AM as I'm typing this, and stopped playing about 15 minutes ago.

I seriously need to get my rhythm in check and try to make these game sessions so that I stop around midnight.

...but it's a great game though.

Cool, thanks for your input. It makes me even more interested in the sequel, as I have heard quite a few people say it was one of the top 10 rpg's of all-time. I will have to get through Seige of Dragonspear Castle, and then other 3rd expansion level on part 1, and then get right into part 2, and see what all that talk was about. So far this is of the highest quality, definitely a 10/10.

I am glad Sony included this classic in the PS4 library, if I have to i will buy part 3 in advance, and then later get a good new cpu. I would literally buy a new cpu, just to play BG3 & the Total War:Shogun game. Those two both look awesome, and my type of deep indepth games to get lost in. I am pretty much a fan of any halfway decent rpg or strategy game. I can't wait to check out all the cool shit on steam!!! I imagine it just like the Playstation Store, only x1000 better.

I personally haven't played through the expansions of Baldur's Gate (I think they were Tales from the Sword Coast and the one bundled with the enhanced edition, Siege of Dragonspear?), but have heard good thing about them. Glad you're enjoying them.

If you want to delve deeper into the Forgotten Realms after playing Baldur's Gate games, or before you start playing Baldur's Gate 3, you should check out Neverwinter Nights and it's expansions! They were also made from the same developers who made BG's. I've played the original and it's expansions, but haven't gotten around to play Neverwinter Nights 2 through... I'll have to put that on my list to play as well, as I'm in no rush really to start BG3.
