Presenting the <a href="http://kongming.net/dw5/">Dynasty Warriors 5 (Shin Sangoku Musou 4) Home Page</a>! Due to the number of requests I have taken time out from the current project (briefly explained below) to get you some basic information and resources for the game (and I might get a Kessen III page online down the road too). You can view character profiles (and see who is new) through the <a href="http://kongming.net/dw5/characters/">Character Profiles page</a>, and on the <a href="http://kongming.net/dw5/">game home page</a> a collection of <a href="http://kongming.net/dw5/#releases_links">useful links, forums, and searches</a> are available. If you have particular requests, please post them <a href="/viewtopic.php?t=11876">here in our forum</a>. No high-resolution portraits available yet—I don’t have them—but if you happen to have any please <a href="http://kongming.net/email/">send me an email</a>.

The project I mentioned? Just as I did in the past with the <a href="http://kongming.net/novel/hanzi/">Hanzi Project</a> and the <a href="http://kongming.net/novel/bios/">Biography Project</a>, I am updating the game information to be managed through a database. When complete, this will automate the products page, the <a href="http://kongming.net/#gn">game news</a> (at the bottom of our home page), and all the news and links shown on each game page. The <a href="http://kongming.net/dw5/">Dynasty Warriors 5</a> and <a href="http://kongming.net/dw4/">Dynasty Warriors 4</a> pages are already using this new system. The benefits? When done, the convenience afforded will allow me to start making game updates again, and site-wide information will always be current!

Is there a program I can run to have my computer be able to decipher the japanese text. I'm american and really have no idea what those symbols mean.

You actually have to update Windows in order to read the Japanese or Chinese text. You do this by installing language packs. One way that works with most copies of Windows is to go to a Japanese or Chinese page and wait for your computer to prompt you to install the language, then let it. If that doesn't work, you have to try to download it from microsoft.com.

I think he wants to have a program that would translate for him. If he's a monolingual American and can't read Japanese, having the characters display properly isn't going to help.

That complicates things. I know BabelFish, a technology found at altavista.com, can do a certain degree of active translation (I browse GameCity with it activated), but I honestly do not know how useful it would be overall. Perhaps it is worth a shot. I am not aware of other technologies that could be applied.

I see stuff. It's just that my computer can't see Japanese/Chinese.
I think it's time to get a new Flash/Macromedia upgrade.

There may have been a database hiccup or something. When I develop PHP I write a lot of code to just flat out fail the page and toss an error, but after I put it online for everyone I change it to hide those errors (so people don’t see private site information). I usually also go through and rewrite the error-handling code to fail gracefully instead of flat out killing the page. I think I got everything for the DW5 page in this case.

Can you see the page now, or is there still a problem?
If there is a problem, do you see anything on the screen?

See my third post; you need a language pack. I don’t use Flash on KMA.

Edit: Search for language packs at microsoft.com.
Get simplified and traditional Chinese along with Japanese.
Edit: My bad, the results are language packs for Office. For information on installing CJK (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) languages for Windows, have a look at this page instead: http://zsigri.tripod.com/fontboard/cjk/cjksupp.html
