austbird, did you do any zheng letter recruiting / throne recruiting? This can screw up the on-map people like Shen Pei, Yang Huai, etc and cause them to not be where they are supposed to. I kind of think Shen Pei doesn't show up sometimes anyway, but I know it's more likely to happen if you're messing with the zheng letter and recruiting officers...

Oh, you mean like Sima Yi not appearing at the Battle of Luoyang?

austbird wrote:Ok, a bizarre thing occurred. As I was going back to get screen caps for you, I opened my nestopia save state. As expected, the dock guard wasn't there. So I took the game save to VirtualNES like I did last time and...he still wasn't there. I redid the fight at Chencang and picked up the ticket (screenshotting all the way). Went back to the dock...nothing.

Returned to Chencang, talked to everybody, emptied the other treasure chests, stayed the night, investigated the blocked pass, went to Tianshui and stayed at the inn, saved there and reloaded...nothing worked. I took the save back to Nestopia, and that didn't work either.

So...I can give you all the screenshots you want up to the point of Shen Pei being at the dock. My earliest save state is a ways after that, unfortunately (note to soldyne - I can send you a later save state if you couldn't get Shen Pei to appear).

----------

As for Cao Cao in Luo, that one took me a few tries. Besides having Zhuge Liang in the combat party with the cloudburst scroll to extinguish the fire (Ma Liang was my strategist for that battle). I had someone as the dedicated JinXian/WanFu group healer almost every round, had plenty of revive potions on hand, and abused the fire spells for when I was unable to attack. The crossbow should also help (I didn't discover this until the final battle, which will be equally tough, if not worse). You seriously have to focus your physical attacks anytime Ji Mian lets up for a moment. I never found out which tactic counters Ji Mian until after I finished the game - apparently Jie Ce *might* work.

Hello im new here and i cant past the area where SHEN PEI is supposed to be. I have a virtua nes and i went back and forth on all my saved games didnt work> I went even earlier to ones i sent to my email and im stuck at Han Zhong where i defeated Xiahou Yuan. Any help is appreciated.

OK, so have you been using saved states? This may cause the disappearance of some people. Or, the Zheng Letter Trick may also cause it.

If so, I'm not exactly sure what to do, but... I guess you could retry with a clean ROM.

What emulator are you using?

I haven't heard of save state use causing a problem like this.
Where did you?

The Zheng Letter trick can cause all sorts of problems, though.

Unless the ROM was downloaded from a strange place that shouldn't be a problem.

For one thing, he's using Virtua NES.

And the save state thing, I just assumed it because they tend to cause some rare problems in some games.

I just re-read it. All saved games aren't working regardless of location?

What did you do before this happened? Are the saved games at various points of the game?

Sounds like a residual bug from Zheng Letter meddling, but at the same time I'm pretty sure we've heard of someone not having Shen Pei at the port in a regular game.

He's a mistranslation by the way, it's supposed to be Xin Pi.
