Which version of the novel do you have? It's definitely in the Chinese text, but I think in the www.threekingdoms.com version they used Liu Shan to refer to him everywhere instead.

E Dou is also used in the movie, I never finished it, but after Liu Shan/Chan was born, E Dou was used.

BTW, which is more correct, Liu Shan or Chan? Or no matter?

Well...we don't know for sure. Many think that Shan is the more correct term...either way I'm sticking with Chan, it's what I learned it's what I'll stick by, I suppose.

There is a discussion of that here: http://www.the-scholars.com/viewtopic.p ... 5&start=10 . And yes I stick with Liu Shan (that's what I argued for in that post anyway :lol:)

Wen Choung wrote:Okay. Since this is a topic on names, someone explain this to me. Liu Bei's son has like 3 names (or two, depending on how you look at it).

They are:
- Liu Shan
- Liu Chan
- E Dou

The two Liu's I understand, but where does E Dou come in? Is it a style or something?

Well, everyone knows that Lady Gan had dreamt of swallowing E Dou (the north star) and then later on gave birth. But I didn't have a recollection of it being used in SGZ, but more likely in SGYY. So I think E Dou was his name in SGYY.

Zhao Yun
Yun = cloud
Zi = son
Long = dragon

So Zhao Yun was fated to become famous when he serves Liu Bei and that did happened.
