Fin, why do you think Ling Tong was overrated?

Erm, I guess I only think people over rate him who only know DW. I just feel that Koei made him a charcter when there were more deserving people out there who had longer careers and stuff.

I've a brave warrior in my army. Shen Ai is his name, and he can slay this Hua Xiong.

Wei has no more famous commanders, Shen Ai takes lead of the vanguard!

Even a commoner on the street knows what Shen Ai is thinking!

Well going by history, Ling Tong did have a short career but he achieved a lot within that time frame. The two highlights for me was (1) defeating Cao Ren (and maybe Xu Huang) when he came to attack the main camp that Ling Tong was left in charge of by Zhou Yu at Jiangling. This was in despite of the fact that Ling Tong was left with very few troops for the task. Also (2) it was mostly thanks to his heroics that Sun Quan escaped He Fei with his life. He also proposed some strategy and suppressed a tribe that Sun Quan had failed to do a number of times. Ling Tong's achievements were absolutely crucial to Wu. He was certainly one of the bravest, toughest men they had.

IMO Ling Tong was an excellent asset and one of the best in Wu. In contrast to Gan Ning, he was also a very decent guy. In fact i would compare him most to Zhao Yun. Both faced similar kinds of odds and achieved things of similar importance.

I think similar to Sun Fin but I do like Ling Tong more than Gan Ning and think of him as a greater asset.

Vlad Draculla, or Vlad the Impaler?
The killing of the serving boy was just awful. I find that Gan Ning is slightly more famous than Ling Tong though.

Yeps....a little blood thirsty fellow. I prefer Ling Tong and yes, i still don't understand why soldiers follow Gan Ning anyway.

I don't think soldiers particularly cared about the morales of their leaders as long as the general was likely to lead them to victory and the rewards of. Gan Ning's style probably suited certain soldiers who could hope to gain more pillage and loot. Gan Ning was clearly an able leader of men and a very good general, I think many would rather serve him then a nice guy who was less competent.
