Alright, I'm not image-savvy but I do a lot of image work for Wikia without the use of PhotoShop!! But since nobody has done anything, I thought I would look into it for you until someone better has a look too!!

Ok, bit of a touch image to work with, I personally found the results not to be the best but with some cropping did my best!!

If you're talking about the file size limit, that can be solved by hosting it on a file sharing site like Photobucket and then linking it to here. It's how I use all of my avatars nowadays.

Anyway, my shiny new avatar is Peter Cushing, OBE.
My avatar is Roy from Fire Emblem: Binding Blade, as he appears in Fire Emblem: Awakening

Cool thanks guys, I saved it to my computer and then uploaded it rather than using photobucket!

OK, so after spending 5 years asking people to make avatars for me I've finally tried to make my own. I got the image in decent shape and uploaded it to photobucket but what I still can't seem to do is make the image fit in to:

the avatar’s filesize must be between 0 and 6 KiB.

So how do I make the file size smaller on photobucket?

EDIT: Figured it out at last!

I try

I'm feeling the itch these days to get into some art. That and I want to do something special for my soon-to-be former manager as I move on into a new position with a different company. :D

It's a bugger getting the image size right for SoSZ isn't it mate? If you're using Photoshop, 'save for web' will GIF it and trim the size right down.

This Jetstream Sam avatar of mine is a custom, admittedly I'm still learning when it comes to image manipulation but the diffuse filter and lens flare look alright I suppose.
