For RTK VIII, sighh...the game is pro-Shu. Taking any guy from Shu inclination would likely to result in a good ending. (ie. the Han Emperor bestowing Wu Ji to you as wife and thus the northern barbarians would not invade). Thus, sad to say, I enjoyed taking Liu Bei! Yucks!

And Wu is probably the suckiest in that game with poor stats. But! last time I checked, Zhuge Liang and Liu Bei's head were rolling down the streets of Cheng Du with all the bloodied corpses of the Shu army.
Whahahahaahahahahaha

This is a very good thread and since it covers a frequently asked question I've decided to make it sticky so that newer members can place their vote. It will also prevent more threads like it from cluttering the forum up.

I think i like using created officers the most *even though there are really no special events.*

Sun Ce in the 194 period is a close second,
any Sun Jian one a third choice,
and I'm actually beginning to like using Shi Xie..*need mental..help..*

The ruler I like to play as is Gongsun Zan. The generel I most like playing as is Zhao Yun under Liu Bei. Surprisingly I almost always become his warlord, even when we get Zhuge Liang.

I love using my created families Lu and Yuan. With noble warrior Yuan Teng in the lead, Liu Zhang cannot stand before my armies! MWHAHAHAHA!!! Many of his generals are pretty good, and, besides Yan Yan and Zhang Ren, will join my side easily. YiZhou is a good base, and gets alot of talent.....best of all being Fa Zheng. I then usually war with whoever has Chang-An and conquer the northwest corner of China......then I just select the weakest possible target and eliminate. I also get rid of tribes ASAP......they're very annoying. In 6, I like toying with history, setting up perenial losers in good positions. In RTKVII, I got alot of enjoyment out of playing Ma Teng in scenario 1. Han Sui is a fun ruler to serve....even if he did promote me after I egineered a miliatary disaster......
Landing the first blow is nice, but only the blow that counts is the last!

wow.. going off of topic a bit, But Lu Bu actually does pretty good in the 194 scenario.. He holds off Cao Cao and Yuan Shao for quite some time without much help at all..

as for the Shi Xie comment from before, I now proclaim myself a "Shi Xie-ist!" Go Shi Xie!!! :D
