In the game, who comes of age for whom is based on ruler. If you start in the first scenario as Cao Cao, you get Cao Ang and Xiahou Mao in 191, Sima Yi in 195, etc.

Here's the problem. Any officer that is meant to come of age more than 10 years after the start of the scenario usually comes of age 5 or 10 years late. As an example, in later scenarios, Xiahou Hui/He/Ba/etc. join Cao Cao in certain years starting in I believe 201. If you start in the first scenario, however, they won't show up until 210 or later.

Anyone know why this is?

I read somewhere that II had a limit on how many officers can be active at once, so if you start in an early scenario that goes on long enough, officers will be delayed in appearing until older ones die off.

There's definitely a limited number of slots for officers (probably 216). Once that's full, new officers won't show up until someone dies off.

Why did you guess 216? I would have thought 255 or something.

I read that IV has the same exact issue. I was trying to artificially inflate my created force by assigning a bunch of created officers to be children of officers on the force, but their joining was staggered out. After reading about this, it finally made sense.

I don't think III has this problem. I do wonder why Koei put in this limitation.

Why am I guessing 216? Because trying to create a scenario with >216 starting officers (including first year hiddens/autojoins) -- or >216 hidden officers total -- breaks the game (and not the way vanish-doom breaks FF3).

On a side note, the RoTK2 PU mod recent hit 100 hits, but there were no responses; is the mod working out? Is it enjoyable? Does anything seem broken?

RTK II Does anyone know the formula for 'threat'? I have threatened Ma Teng successfully. Can Liu Bei be threatened? Thanks!

According to darkmoon2321 & ServantOfMagnus in http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/588628-r ... i/70111924 there are three things:

(1) The threatener must have at least six times as many troops as the target.
(2) The base formula is (100-enemy ruler ambition+ threatening rulers trust divided by three).
(3) At 2E8E6, there are slots for seven officer portraits (A100 6700 6800 0100 0200 6C00 8600) that, presumably, have a much lower chance of being threatened successfully. And the portraits are... Liu Bei, Cao Cao, Cao Pi, Sun Jian, Sun Ce, Sun Quan, Dong Zhuo.

EDIT: A couple years back, someone posted a code on gamefaqs that guarantees Threaten will work; my testing it showed that it ONLY the target's capital would surrender, so having only one province left must also be a requirement.

Thanks DragonAtma! I've got Liu Bei with zeroes across the board, but threatening him multiple times/mo for many months has yielded nothing... I have 100 trust too. I'll keep at it. :)

Argh, not happening. I've threatened him a zillion times over years and years, save-scumming with different permutations. I don't think it can be done. I was really looking forward to having him succeed GSZ, finishing the game with GSZ's colour, united under Liu Bei.

Fwiw, Ma Teng is a pushover... surrendered with 7 generals and even some soldiers and rice...
