The series' official facebook page has an update expressing surprise at how many people from outside Japan played the demo despite it only having a Japanese language option.

At least they know there's interest.

I do wonder if the game getting an English release announced so soon (and seems to be getting released almost as soon a the Japanese release) has anything to do with Total War getting the period more attention in English speaking countries?

I think that probably is a factor for sure. I noticed XIII was released in North America over 6 months later than the Japanese release. I'd imagine they're aware of the Total War 3k sales.
I haven't tried the demo myself, but have watched a few on youtube and most of the reactions I've seen from the Japanese gamers have been fairly positive. I definitely think it favors IX more than XI.

Yeah, I think it might have been that. The steam forums for total war three kingdoms were taking about the game. I remember when 13 came out, people didn't know if the west was even getting the game. Hopefully that will inspire them to translate the older games? Sounds unlikely but it would be welcome nonetheless.

Yeah, English versions of older games on Steam (preferably with PUK, but that would be more work for them) would be something I'd greatly appreciate.
I do like the new officers they're going to add in XIV though. Lots of historical people I always used to create as well so far.

According to a twitter update Wen Yang apparently has a unique tactic (an earlier tweet seemed to be saying some unexpected officers would have unique or powerful tactics--the translation for the used word was "cool", but Wen Yang's is being translated as unique). It damages a target and confuses multiple enemies.
His stats are also revealed: 78/91/63/32/65

The official english site has been updating a lot recently.
Notably, foreign tribes have been confirmed; they seem to operate similarly to XI where they appear in areas with low order, but it seems officers with the right trait can ally with them as well. Here's what the site says:
When public order drops, in addition to bandits, foreign tribes will appear and cause trouble. The tribes are the Wuhuan, Xianbei, Qiang, Shanyue, and Nanman tribes. Areas these tribal units pass through will become empty areas and the player will lose control of that area. Players must quickly deal with these units or lose more land.
In addition to deploying troops to deal with these tribes, another option to deal with tribes is the "character" (traits) of officers, which can prevent certain tribes from appearing in areas to begin with. If the "character" is the same as the opposing tribe, the tribe will become an ally and may appear in an enemy’s territory for good effect.

A screenshot of Ma Chao seems to explain it better; if a character has the trait associated with that tribe, than they may appear in enemy territory to harass them.

They also have a list of some (edit: correction, seems to be all) of the game's formations. They look a bit more involved than in IX as we have a formation specializing in wood and mountain terrain types.

They're also translating the developer diaries and interviews, which I don't think they've done before. The game seems to be getting a much bigger English language push than previous entries, possibly because of the recent Total War getting the period more attention.

Edit: More formation notes:
*10 types, plus 3 siege weapons; catapults, towers, and rams. Same as IX but no elephant.
*3 types of ship--these seem to be linked to the force rather than officers. There's the basic regular Ship, a stronger Assault Ship, and a Roofed Ship with ranged capabilities.

Edit 2: This might end up being unused over here, but there's stuff on the Japanese site about a collaboration with the anime "Legend of the Galactic Heroes" to include characters from it in the game. One of the Nobunaga's Ambition games had some characters I think were from an anime series in it as well.
I'm seeing nothing about this promotion on the english sites so it might be Japan only.

The tiniest quibble, but I'm pretty sure that character screenshot was Ma Teng, not Ma Chao. He's got a beard! Giving Ma Chao a beard would be like giving Taishi Ci a beard, blasphemous.

*looks innocent*

Also, Koei is actually working with Creative Assembly for a fanart contest. Details at https://www.koeitecmoamerica.com/rtk14/contest/

Yeah, I just checked his stats and that's probably Ma Teng unless Chao is getting a huge, huge nerf.

The contest is interesting.

One thing I noticed is that they seem to be avoiding giving an officer too many of the ten formations; one picture shows that even Cao Cao only has four of them available.
