Romance of the Three Kingdoms Touch is a mobile application released by Koei over iTunes for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. It is loosely based on the original Romance of the Three Kingdoms for the NES. Skip a few posts down for a detailed writeup of some in-game observations.

Yeah, I saw it a few days ago. I've been trying to get an approval for Apple's referral program but those jerks are dragging their feet. This game is very cool. So if someone wants the game and doesn't mind waiting a few days (it is $10), they can toss a smile KMA's way. :)

Odd notes:
- One action per turn, per city (excluding delegation).
- Disasters are horrible.
- Has a lot in common with RTK 1, especially battle.
(e.g. many aspects of battle, rulers cannot be recruited).
- Charge is brutal. A one-hit kill.
- Arson and Rumor are extremely effective.
- Similarly, being targeted by arson and rumor sucks.
- The CPU doesn't really try to recruit officers, but low-loyalty officers can leave unannounced.
- Death and resignation takes place in January.
- Money and Food are both collected in July.
- There are two city scores, Order and Commerce (may have been called something else).
- Raise commerce with 600 gold at a time if possible, Order with 4000 food. There is a higher return on resources for the middle options (2,000 food or 300 gold) but as you only get one action per turn you're better off moving quickly and using downtime to recruit, search, etc.).
- Recruiting a governor does not take subordinates.
- You lose automatically if attacked with zero gold.
- Max gold and max food are 30,000.
- For a large army aim to keep 15,000 to 20,000 on hand at all times.
- Merchants are not always present in cities. Be careful when donating or recruiting soldiers.
- No troop reassignment.
- Officers have dedicated soldiers and are recruited with them.
- Soldiers are recruited in batches, but only until one selected officer is maxed.
(e.g. One officer has 19000, the other 18000, you can only recruit 2000 (1000 for each) if both are selected).
- Capturing someone can result in a near-automatic recruit.
- No prison.

Graphics are actually quite polished! A very well-done game.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms Touch

Unread postby Kong Wen » Tue Apr 06, 2010 2:54 am

Mod Edit: Merged Topics

There's a Romance of the Three Kingdoms game on iTunes published by Koei. It sells for $9.99. Has anyone tried it?

I just won a free iPod Touch, and this'll be the first thing I buy regardless of anyone's reviews and feedback.

Yep, I have. I think I posted a mini-review about it somewhere...

In short, pretty fun. Watered down. Disasters are completely imbalancing.

I'll try to find the full writeup.

Yeah, I did a rudimentary quick search of the forum but found nothing. I expected it to be watered down, but hey, it's RTK! ;) It's too bad they're still so resistant to online multiplayer.

Basically, master charge, rumors, and disasters to become a god among men.

P.S. The game itself is actually quite polished in terms of interface. I've been very impressed by aspects of it. One sad observation, though, is that Koei basically released it and abandoned it. There were a lot of complaints about some things like disasters and they really should have been addressed. Hopefully they update it at some point.

Koei doesn't seem like the kind of company to release an update/patch... Look for Romance of the Three Kingdoms Mobile II, coming soon to a touchy device near you, with all the great features of the original game and 10% fewer glitches/problems! ;)

Sorry Mr. Kong. I tried to merge the threads and I think I did it backwards. Muck around with it however you like. I've been planning to make a home page for this game over at KMA at some point so I wanted to set this thread up to be just that. [Edit: I made the topic yours again—interesting feature, that...]

Cool sidenote. I set up an affiliate program with Apple a while ago and I posted a link above to purchase the app. If anyone interested in buying it is so inclined they can toss some spare change my way in their purchase. :)

You know... even with traditional Koei antics, I'd be happy if they took to the platform. :)

Does anyone actually have the game, who could perhaps take music samples from it?
