Close Friend: Sets the new officer's compatibility number to the same as the chosen officer. This affects how loyal an officer is to each ruler. So someone who is close friends with Cao Cao will have high loyalty to Cao Cao, fairly good loyalty with Lu Bu, and bad loyalty with Yuan Shao.

Liked Officer: If the lead of a unit and one of the other officers in the same unit Like each other then the stat boost from the subordinate officer having a higher rating in Lead or War is larger. Likes officers can also launch the small assist attacks if leading units close to each other. Finally, an officer will have higher Loyalty if he Likes his ruler.

Disliked Officer: If a unit includes two officers that Dislike each other the unit's stats are sabotaged (I think it removes the boost from any non-leader). Officers that dislike each cannot Marry or become Sworn Siblings (as I recall). An officer who Dislikes a ruler is almost impossible to recruit, possibly requiring special circumstances, and their loyalty will be shaky.

It probably goes without saying, but if New Officer has good compatibility with Cao Cao, then he'll also have good compatibility with Cao Pi, Cao Ang, Xiahou Dun, etc.

Koei has a long history (at least since RoTK2) of using a single byte for compatibility.
Unless I specifically say otherwise, assume I am talking about historical Three Kingdoms, and not the novel.

Additional note on Disliked officers - you will never receive or give assistance to a unit in battle if they're disliked (I think this might just check the primary commander for units); this applies even if you (or they) have the Assistance skill.
Currently playing: Android: Netrunner LCG , Shadowrun (tabletop), and Warhammer Ancient Battle.

If you are going to create your own kingdom to put into the game, it might be a good idea to have the core members either be Close or Liked with the leader. Also if you want to cannibalize another group, perhaps think about putting a couple of their core members as Liked as well. It runs a risk of them defecting to that other group, but also might make it easier to recruit them if and when you defeat them :P

You want to cannibalize another group without the risk of them stealing your people? I'd have New Ruler set Liu Bei (or whoever the target force's ruler is) as close friend, and have your key officers set New Ruler as their close friend. Then you've got a bunch of people who have the same compatibility as your target, but they all adore your ruler. Just make sure that New Ruler doesn't get removed from power! XD

Sworn brother is best, their stats will combine stronger

I tried placing Diao Chan with Lu Bu toether, before they married, their stat improved.

Once they married, their stats became even better......

Same situation as Like officers

Ghost character are those officer that are NOT usable

Example

Cao Song

Dong Zhuo father

Yuan Shao father

Zhang Jiao father

If you play as Cao Cao the PUK chinese game, the Dong Zhuo Rise scenario, there's one incident that trigger Cao Cao to escort his father Cao Song to Chen Liu city, but Cao Song was killed by Tao Qian officer.

Thus, this lead to Cao Cao & Tao Qian diplomatic relationship turned Hostile

Ghost Officers sole purpose is to serve as parents (they aren't NPCs and can't be made playable). They're represented by the following values and allow you to create custom brothers to existing officers or even create custom families without making the patriarch:
D0 07 - Yuan Shao's father (Yuan Cheng I guess)
D1 07 - Yuan Yin's father
D2 07 - Yuan Shu's & Yuan Yi's father (Yuan Feng, but weren't Shu and Yi cousins?)
D3 07 - Wang Yun's father
D4 07 - Wang Ling's father
D5 07 - Kuai Liang's & Kuai Yue's father
D6 07 - Xiahou Dun's father
D7 07 - Xiahou De's & Xiahou Shang's father
D8 07 - Xiahou Yuan's father
D9 07 - Guanqiu Jian's & Guanqiu Xiu's father
DA 07 - Han Xuan's & Han Hao's father
DB 07 - Yan Baihu's & Yan Yu's father
DC 07 - Gao Gan's & Gao Rou's father
DD 07 - Gongsun Zan's & Gongsun Yue's father
DE 07 - Gongsun Fan's father
DF 07 - Cai He's & Cai Zhong's father
E0 07 - Cai Mao's & Cai Shi's father (I thought they were siblings of Cai He and Zhong?)
E1 07 - Sima Lang's, Sima Yi's & Sima Fu's father (Sima Fang I guess)
E2 07 - Zhou Xin's & Zhou Ang's father
E3 07 - Zhu Rong's & Dailai Dongzhu's father
E4 07 - Xun Yu's & Xun Chen's father (Xun Gun I guess)
E5 07 - Xun You's father
E6 07 - Xun Xu's father
E7 07 - Xiang Lang's father
E8 07 - Xiang Chong's father
E9 07 - Zhuge Jin's, Zhuge Liang's & Zhuge Jun's father (must be Zhuge Gui)
