Koei’s Romance of the Three Kingdoms game series—discuss it here.

Perhaps load up the game after you have reached a comfortable point in translation and observe the lines and where they break. With a list compiled, and some knowledge of where you run out of space, you could probably clean up a pretty nice portion of them.

Hmm... also, it is a monospace font to match up with the even spacing of Chinese characters, yes? This allows you to determine the exact amount of characters allowed on a single screen (adjusted for the variables such as gold quantities) and this, with a plain text editor, might allow you to anticipate text placement without even having to witness the dialogue in the game?

Even having the English translation is awesome, really. It is just fun to imagine how this might be done. I have no experience hacking the language of these games myself, though.

The dialogue is done with Van's San11 editor. It's a simple matter of loading up the Chinese *MSG*.S11 files, going through them, figuring out what the format is, and translating them.

That's not terrible at all. Well, it wouldn't be if I knew enough Japanese. :)

I have the EXE a lot more translated. James, can I send it to you and get it hosted on the site?

James, it's en route to your mailbox as we speak.

The only thing I included was a Paypal donation link, because I am poor. :P

It should work with either the 1.0 or 1.1 version of ROTK11 Chinese version, but I'm not certain.

I sent what's done so far to James. Right now, I'm going to go back to work with the ROTK10 English Patch I started and make it as complete as this one.
