Thank you!

To be honest, I'm both happy and terrified...

Pfft youngling, the last time I taught a university course was 10 years ago.

Good luck though. I loved teaching at the university level and miss it a lot. Do you get to develop the course from scratch? How big is the class?

As far as I know, I should get up to 30 students.

I tried to build the content of the course through rigorous research. I used Russell Kirk's The Conservative Mind, The Conservative Intellectual Movement in America Since 1945 by George H. Nash, William F. Buckley's biography by Cart T. Bogus, over a dozen academic papers and a sprinkle of classic works by authors such as Burke and the Federalist.

I only got a few hours, so I have plenty of material to work with!

Hello Antiochus,

I would recommend taking a look at the Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt for some of the moral reasoning the underlies political persuasion, and he's gotten a lot of heat for rejecting the various claims that conservative-minded individuals are suffering under a pathology or deeply prejudicial rather than allowing for the recognition of different approaches to morality.

Best of luck,

Longingly I cast an empty vessel aside those exposed roots,
And leave behind forgotten memories and forsaken dreams.

I know we've not seen you for a few months now Antiochus but next time you pass through I'd love an update on how your class went! :D
