Also, as a side note. I think I quoted stage 3 wrong. It should be:
"Do good because you know that God's rules are designed for your own good, so you'd better obey it."
Agreed I know plenty of good Muslims, good Jews, good Buddhists, good Hindu people and good Atheists. Living by one set of rules does not make someone morally better than someone else as we all have our own set of morals. In the end so long as you are respecting the Human Rights of others, obeying the law and being the best person you can be, there's no need for religion to be good.
If becoming enlightened or an intellectual means I must become arrogant and coldly cynical about the world around me then I'd gladly remain a fool for the rest of my life!!
