I'm a cultural scientist.

i mean, not to disparage psychologists. just, most people think of psychiatry when you say "psychology".

I'm only concerned with the purity of it all.

I guess it is weird you got a BA and not a BSc?

i'm kind of an underachiever. i never worked in any labs as an undergraduate, didn't write a thesis, and graduated with a vague idea i might try applying for graduate school one day. spent a year working at a call center, couldn't ever show up on time and was on the verge of being fired, so i quit and took the GRE just in time. now i show up at the lab at 10:30 every morning, ±30 minutes! excellent!

needless to say i had a pretty rocky start as a grad student, but i caught up. basically.

actually, if you're concerned about purity, my subfield is called psychophysics, which is probably the "purest" form of experimental psychology (you could draw a version of that cartoon within any given field as well!).

Me too. I've seen some who are vicious opposed to it though, and I don't know why.

Interesting that someone would be viciously opposed to a web comic of this sort for any reason...

I agree. I'm not sure if I remember it being a thread topic or a blog, but was something akin to saying they were frauds and copycating other comics or something.

Just to make some people antsy ... isn't philosophy of higher purity than mathematics?

(Disclaimer: I am not and could never pretend to be any student of philosophy)
If I'm posting here, it means I'm procrastinating.
