Text recognition software

Unread postby Butters » Sun Sep 06, 2009 12:06 pm

Does anyone know where I can get decent, free text recognition software? I'm interested in knowing the answer to this, considering I've been given the suggestion to use text recognition software for The Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms. I would PM Tarrot, but this seems like something everyone could benefit from.

In my case, I want something that is completely free, or at least a good demo, and in English.

Readiris is what I used for turning some Song-era Traditional Chinese docs into a computer-readable document and it worked ok. It works really well for English texts, which I'm guessing is what you would use it for. Readiris Pro is, as the name suggests, not free, but I believe they still offer a pretty good demo. There was also a freeware program I tried, but I can't remember the name of the software. It didn't do what I needed it to so I kind of forgot about it...
