Capturing Screenshots From Video Files

Unread postby Kongming's Prodigy » Fri Mar 24, 2006 3:53 am

Hey guys, I was just wondering if there's any way I can take screenshots from a video file, i.e. wmv. There must be a way, since I've seen it been done before. Any help is appreciated. :)

Normal media players (Windows Media, Realplayer, Winamp) don't let you do it.

Go to and search for "Cyberlink Power DVD." I'm not sure if it will play .wmv files, but it can't hurt to try. To open it with Power DVD, find the wmv file in 'My Computer,' right-click on the file and click on 'Open With.' Power DVD probably won't be there, so you'll have to search for a program after you click on Open With.

That's the only solution I have. Hope it works.

For Media Player, turn off video acceleration.

I know there was a program, that you could extract every frame from the video, and each was an image file.

Try doing a search on for AVI editors or movie editors.

Needing AMV screens quite often, I've run into that problem before....nothing but a black screen LOL

Go get virtual dub (free and spyware free :) ) Put the movie in and drag to where your clip is (don't play as most footage is skippy in v the programs used for cutting up files, scripting ect)
If the file will load into v dub, you won't have a problem taking the shot.

Hope this helps.
Wu, Shu, and Wei videos made with much love.
